SUMMARY:Stour Valley marathon
DESCRIPTION:COMPANY OF RUNNERS cordially invite you to join us for the 2023 running of the prestigious Stour Valley Marathon. Your challenge should you choose to accept it\, is to self-navigate on a marathon trail course (approximately 27 “country” miles) following the highways\, byways\, trails and tracks around the Stour Valley using the Stour Valley Path\, St Edmund’s Way and the Essex Way. \nThe course is a mixture of surfaces\, so trail shoes are recommended. There will be checkpoints on the route\, offering water\, sweets and crisps\, however we would encourage you to be as self-sufficient with fluid and fuel as possible. This year’s race will be cupless\, so you need to bring your own cup or water bottles. Collapsible cups can be purchased from us at race registration at £5. \nThe race should only be attempted by runners who have completed a half marathon or greater distance race with training beyond 20 miles. The cut-off is eight hours\, but that is not because we are being overly generous- this is a notoriously difficult route and some runners take several hours more than they expect to complete the route. We expect you to be confident long-distance runners who can manage trail running in what can often be hot conditions. Participants should also be comfortable with following navigation instructions\, GPS files or by reading maps-this course is not marshalled nor does it have tape/arrows to show the way. The course is slightly different to that used prior to 2021.

SUMMARY:Halstead and Essex Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Halstead Marathon began in 1995 and was the idea of Colin Richer\, and other Halstead Road Runners club members and since then the race has become an annual event. This has been possible mainly due to a core of supporters within Halstead Road Runners and help from Halstead Town Council. In addition\, local commerce continually support the race as do various local voluntary organisations and other local running clubs providing invaluable marshalling on race day. The race attracts athletes from across the UK and abroad and the furthest known travellers to the race have been from Sydney Australia . \nNorth Essex is relatively unrecognised as an area of extreme beauty but has an abundance of hidden back roads amongst rolling hills\, woods and farmlands. Even more attractive to runners is that\, apart from a 400m stretch in the last mile\, the race is entirely on roads with very little traffic. \nAs a club we have been able to offer a well organised race with every facility to make it a memorable event for experienced and new marathon runners alike. A new course was utilized for 2015 to ensure runner safety and the current course records are Male 2:29:58 (Pete Robinson – Springfield Striders RC – 2022) and Female 3:00:44 (Jackie Stretton – Springfield Striders RC – 2018). Don’t forget that record breakers win a £200 prize (male and female). \nHalstead Road Runners is a small club of around ninety-five members in a rural area. We ask a lot from our members every year to support this all day event. We hope for yet another record number of entrants in 2023 and hope you will join us for our 27th marathon and as always we hope to meet old friends on the day and make new friends with our first time runners. \nWe pride ourselves on providing a “Race for Runners” which has been continually rated in the top 5 marathon races in the UK and once again will donate a large percentage of any profits to local charities and schools.

SUMMARY:Camuplodunum Trail Marathon
DESCRIPTION:COMPANY OF RUNNERS cordially invite you to join us for the Camuplodunum Marathon. Your challenge should you choose to accept it\, is to self-navigate on a marathon trail course following the trails and tracks encircling Colchester.\nColchester was known as Camulodunum in Roman times. Derek Keeble conceived the Camuplodunum in 1974 as a 25-mile walk encircling the town. See what he did there: Camu-PLOD-unum. Genius! We’re sticking almost to his route – obviously the urban landscape has changed a little since the 70s plus we needed to top it up to over 26 miles. \nThere will be no checkpoints on the route\, so this is a self-supported race. However\, you will pass lots of shops and pubs – and we have listed these on the written navigation. Please study them in advance and plan out your day. We don’t mind you meeting up any supporters if you prefer them to deliver refreshments to you.\nMandatory kit: We will expect you to carry our tracker\, mobile phone\, and start with a minimum of 500ml liquid and chocolate bar equivalent of fuel. \nThe race should only be attempted by runners who have completed a half marathon or greater distance race with training beyond 20 miles. The cut-off is nine hours\, to allow fast walkers to join us. Participants should also be comfortable with following navigation instructions\, GPS files or by reading maps – this course is not marshaled nor does it have tape/arrows to show the way. We will be giving runners trackers; these can be used by participants to check that they are on the correct route\, or friends and family can follow you plus we can see where you are.

SUMMARY:Brightlingsea Challenge - marathon\, half and 10k
DESCRIPTION:Now in it’s fifth year\, why not join us for our Brightlingsea Challenge marathon and 6hr timed event on the Essex coastline. Typically\, this brings out the extremes in the weather\, with both snow and warm sunshine in the last 2 years! \nThe undulating but predominantly flat\, traffic-free looped trail course\, will give you the opportunity to run a marathon or as many or as few laps as you wish\, within the time limit of 6 hours. The loops will be 10.54km/6.55m in distance and so you will need to complete 2 laps for a half marathon\, 4 laps to cover full marathon distance\, and then if you choose to continue\, the clock will be your only limiting factor! \nWith an aid station at the end of every lap\, you will have the ability to fuel yourself without having to carry everything you might need. You may leave a bag with your specific requirements at the aid station\, for you to raid as you see fit! Alternatively\, there will be flapjacks\, fruit and nuts\, and also water and squash\, should you feel like a change! \nPLEASE NOTE – In an attempt to reduce our race-day plastic waste\, this is a CUPLESS event! We will provide all drinks and refreshments as per our usual aid stations\, but you will need to provide a receptacle of some description. It can be a reusable cup\, soft flask or whatever vessel you choose\, even your very own running shoe at the end of every lap\, but we won’t be providing any cups at all\, and there will be no drinking from jugs either! We will\, of course\, be more than happy to assist you with the filling of whatever you choose as normal. If you wish\, you are able to purchase a Hydrapak Speedcup online as part of your registration\, or on race day.! \nThe race will start at Millenium Park\, Promenade Way\, Brightlingsea\, Essex. CO7 0HH.\nPrices £34.50 – £40 (First 25 entries discounted)
