SUMMARY:Essex Way Relays
DESCRIPTION:This race covers the 82 miles of the Essex way from Epping Station to Harwich Old Lighthouse in 10 stages. The route is mostly cross country and can be difficult through crops and across ploughed fields. Nevertheless it is a very enjoyable day out in the most attractive rural parts of Essex (with an excellent fish and chip shop and pubs waiting for you at Harwich). The course is NOT marked and it is essential for all competitors to have reconnoitred their section before the day to avoid getting lost. \nFergie\, Derek and other Nomads were heavily involved in ‘testing’ the draft Essex Way trail instructions before final versions were written up. Since that time many Clubs and individuals have contributed to checking the Stages for changes to ensure the descriptions are as up to date as possible. These are available below as a complete set (21 pages) in either pdf or Word for Windows format or individually in pdf format for downloading and printing. \nThe Essex Way guidebook is available for free download above or from Essex County Council public rights of way section (pdf 10mb). This gives points of interest & historical information about places passed along the route. For those looking to undertake the route under their own steam this accomodation guide & distance chart (pdf) may be useful. \nThe ‘spirit’ of the race is low-key\, friendly and cooperative\, all competitors should try to support other runners and call them back if they are going off-route and all supporters should assist members of other teams if necessary. If this ethos appeals to you and you would like to enter a team then check back here frequently for information on this years event. \nNote the new design waymark shown on the left above. The poppy is the county flower of Essex and the new waymark is brighter and more visible from a distance than the old one.

SUMMARY:The Admiral McHilly Trail
DESCRIPTION:(approx 14 miles) TRA Permit 5887\nALSO CHELMER TRAIL (approx 5 miles) \nAfter following the Admiral McHardy Trail for two years we decided to explore a little more and for the next two years found you 700 feet of climbing and descent (all in the middle third) still utilising the trail to and from Danbury Hill. Last year we changed the route there and back and the hilly section\, but still got you over 700 feet of climb again. Guess what we have found another 700 feet of climb for you but shortened the distance to 14 miles. Enjoy. Please note this is a hilly event and we hope to provide drink stations\, but always advise carrying some refreshment of your own. \nBy contrast the Chelmer Trail is a flat trail in the Chelmer Valley. \nSunday 20th August 2023. Starts between 9.00am and 10.20am. \nThese are self navigation trail races using a written route description\, which will be issued to you on the day. There are no markings or marshals. No GPX. This is not a mass start event. You will be timed out and back in at the finish. \nRace HQ is located outside the Springfield Cricket Club\, Coronation Park\, Timsons Lane\, Chelmsford CM2 6AF \n£7 entry affiliated £9 unaffiliated. There is a 50p booking fee payable.Entry fee includes £3 voucher to use at the Cricket Club bar on the day.As with all UKA events running with dogs is not allowed. There is ample parking at the venue. \nConfirmation of entry will be sent to you by email (if supplied) to the address provided on the entry form.

SUMMARY:Company of Runners group run: No Pain Engaine Group Run – just over 5 miles
DESCRIPTION:DATE TBC \nColchester Foodbank is the busiest in the East of England and has dwindling stock reserves\, with demand increasing 31.25% over 2021\, while food donations have been decreasing due to the cost of living crisis. \nCompany of Runners have been organising Group Runs to help. They have been massively successful and so we have added to the schedule (up until the end of the summer 2023 for now but with more being planned….). \nYour “entry fee” is to bring us min one item from the Foodbank shopping list – it need only be as little as a bottle of shampoo or a small bag of rice and we’ll take them to the Foodbank. The Foodbank have been delighted with what we have donated from previous runs. The Halloween run alone donated over 53 kg of items! Many thanks to all of you who have donated so far. \nAs England Athletics qualified Leaders in Running Fitness\, we love to take groups of runners out on to the trails. The Group Runs will be a mixture of distances from four miles to marathon distance\, but the entry fee will always remain the same: one item from the Foodbank list. And we will always make sure to create trail routes that are stunning to run and packed full of interesting features. It’s worth pointing out that these are group runs for all running abilities\, and we will always keep the group together\, so if you are looking for a PB-experience this will not be for you. These will be more of a social\, chatty\, support-each-other type run. Ideal if you want to build experience on trails or want to run with others and make running friends rather than always running solo.

SUMMARY:Stour Valley half marathon
DESCRIPTION:COMPANY OF RUNNERS cordially invite you to join us for the 2023 Stour Valley Half Marathon. Your challenge should you choose to accept it\, is to self-navigate on a half marathon trail course (approximately 14 “Country” miles) following the highways\, byways\, trails and tracks around the Stour Valley using the Stour Valley Path and the Essex Way. \nThe course is a mixture of surfaces\, so trail shoes are recommended. There will be checkpoints on the route\, offering water\, sweets and crisps\, however we would encourage you to be as self-sufficient with fluid and fuel as possible. This year’s race will be cupless\, so you need to bring your own cup or water bottles. Collapsible cups can be purchased from us at race registration at £5. \nThe cut-off is four hours\, but we still expect you to be confident runners at this distance who can manage trail running in what can often be hot conditions. Ask friends who have completed this before-it is a notoriously difficult route. Participants should also be comfortable with following navigation instructions\, GPS files or by reading maps. There are no marshals nor tape nor arrows to follow. The route follows most of the first loop of the Stour Valley Marathon route \nThis race makes excellent training for either the SVP100 or SVP50 ultra races which take place in August organised by our friend Matthew Hearne. Please also note that we hold the Stour Valley Marathon on the same day as the half. We will try to offer recce group runs in advance of the race.

SUMMARY:Stour Valley marathon
DESCRIPTION:COMPANY OF RUNNERS cordially invite you to join us for the 2023 running of the prestigious Stour Valley Marathon. Your challenge should you choose to accept it\, is to self-navigate on a marathon trail course (approximately 27 “country” miles) following the highways\, byways\, trails and tracks around the Stour Valley using the Stour Valley Path\, St Edmund’s Way and the Essex Way. \nThe race should only be attempted by runners who have completed a half marathon or greater distance race with training beyond 20 miles. The cut-off is eight hours\, but that is not because we are being overly generous- this is a notoriously difficult route and some runners take several hours more than they expect to complete the route. We expect you to be confident long-distance runners who can manage trail running in what can often be hot conditions. Participants should also be comfortable with following navigation instructions\, GPS files or by reading maps-this course is not marshalled nor does it have tape/arrows to show the way. The course is slightly different to that used prior to 2021.

SUMMARY:Camu10kunum 10k trail run
DESCRIPTION:COMPANY OF RUNNERS cordially invite you to join us for the Camu10kunum. Your challenge should you choose to accept it\, is to self-navigate on a 10k section of the Camuplodunum marathon course. \nColchester was known as Camulodunum in Roman times. Derek Keeble conceived the Camuplodunum in 1974 as a 25-mile walk encircling the town. We’re holding the Camuplodunum Marathon on 1 April so we decided to stage a supplementary 10k race that same day. This will follow the first three miles of the marathon route\, then circle round and return: so nearly an out and back course. It will take in a little of the Essex Way\, pass through beautiful woods and scenery. It is mostly a trail route\, so be prepared for muddy paths. \nThere will be no checkpoints. However\, you will pass the Co-op in West Bergholt halfway should you need to purchase refreshments. \nThe cut-off is three hours\, to allow walkers to join us. Participants should be comfortable with following navigation instructions\, GPS files or by reading maps – this course is not marshaled nor does it have tape/arrows to show the way. It is easy to follow the directions\, however you will be given the Race Director’s phone number and if it is clear that you are very lost\, we will ask for your What 3 Words reference and come and find you!

SUMMARY:Camuplodunum Trail Marathon
DESCRIPTION:COMPANY OF RUNNERS cordially invite you to join us for the Camuplodunum Marathon. Your challenge should you choose to accept it\, is to self-navigate on a marathon trail course following the trails and tracks encircling Colchester.\nColchester was known as Camulodunum in Roman times. Derek Keeble conceived the Camuplodunum in 1974 as a 25-mile walk encircling the town. See what he did there: Camu-PLOD-unum. Genius! We’re sticking almost to his route – obviously the urban landscape has changed a little since the 70s plus we needed to top it up to over 26 miles. \nThere will be no checkpoints on the route\, so this is a self-supported race. However\, you will pass lots of shops and pubs – and we have listed these on the written navigation. Please study them in advance and plan out your day. We don’t mind you meeting up any supporters if you prefer them to deliver refreshments to you.\nMandatory kit: We will expect you to carry our tracker\, mobile phone\, and start with a minimum of 500ml liquid and chocolate bar equivalent of fuel. \nThe race should only be attempted by runners who have completed a half marathon or greater distance race with training beyond 20 miles. The cut-off is nine hours\, to allow fast walkers to join us. Participants should also be comfortable with following navigation instructions\, GPS files or by reading maps – this course is not marshaled nor does it have tape/arrows to show the way. We will be giving runners trackers; these can be used by participants to check that they are on the correct route\, or friends and family can follow you plus we can see where you are.

SUMMARY:HARGRAVE CROSS COUNTRY 10k & 5k FUN RUN
DESCRIPTION:We’re back with our muddy run and walk through the gently undulating countryside round Hargrave\, nr Bury IP29 5HH\, on 25th March at 2.30pm\, with a delicious village tea at the finish. The 5k & 10k course start and finish together\, both are single laps\, the 10k route goes further round the countryside. There is a course map in the pictures. All runners who finish get a banana and voucher for free (legendary) tea and cake in the village hall! Its a very friendly relaxed event\, minimum age 7\, last year’s winners were both 10! Dogs on leads welcome. \nIsolation in a rural village like Hargrave is hidden\, we have no pub or shop\, most people work go to work elsewhere\, children go to different schools and there is no means of getting about if you can’t drive. How do you meet your neighbours? How do you make friends with others in the village? \nRestoring the church has been a journey for all of us which brings us together\, whether we have faith or none. The condition of the church building is a solid manifestation of the goodwill\, the support\, hard work and most of all fun we’ve had. We have built up from 4 services a year in 2005 to two a month\, as well as Easter\, Remembrance and Christmas. Many have contributed to regular cleaning and flowers\, even though not necessarily coming to the services. \nWe have run Messy Church and Youth groups in the village hall\, bringing together both parents and young who had not met before. The village hall is also used for special services when needed\, such as Remembrance\, reflecting the need for easier access for some. We give thanks for our restoration so far\, and the people we remember who have helped. We pray to strengthen our faith and resolve to face future challenges by bringing Hargrave together around this modest\, but thousand-year-old\, church of St Edmund. \nBy entering this run or walk you are helping us continue to serve our little village of Hargrave\, thank you.

SUMMARY:Company of Runners group run: Stour Valley Half Marathon Group Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:Sunday March 12th 2023 at 9am: Stour Valley Half Marathon Group Run – which is also most of the first loop of the Stour Valley Marathon route too -approx 13.8 miles – Meet at Nayland Village Hall\, Church Lane\, Nayland\, Colchester CO6 4JH. \nColchester Foodbank is the busiest in the East of England and has dwindling stock reserves\, with demand increasing 31.25% over 2021\, while food donations have been decreasing due to the cost of living crisis.
