Age Group Honours For Carol

Sunday saw a superb performance from the Halstead Road Runner ladies at Thurlow, for the 10 mile road race. The three Halstead ladies each taking their respective age group honours with fine performances. Kathryn Bronson finishing 3rd in her age group and 4th lady overall. Rosie Atkins 3rd in her age group. However performance of the day was Carol Atkins managing not only a PB but also 1st place in her age category with a splendid performance, finishing with a time of 1:28:29. James Leaney making his comeback from a broken leg managed an equally impressive PB time.

Sunday also marked the first running of the Chelmsford Marathon. Five Halstead Road Runners competed over the 26.2 mile course. Personal bests for Sara Hill and Rich Burnham running impressively under 5 hours. Veteran marathon runner Andy Wilmot, 70, put in another impressive run finishing in a little over 4 hours. Glynn Stone and Neil Poulter rounding off the results with sub 4 hour times of their own.

Halstead Road Runners reining European Duathlon Champion Maurice Young completed in a qualifying event at Althorp House, Northants on Sunday. Over distances of a 5.8k Run, 22k Bike and 5.8k run, Maurice not only won his age group with a time of 2:32:53 he was also successful with qualification to retain his European crown next year.

Finally on Sunday Nia Fortuna competed in the Wix 5. This was Nia’s second race of the weekend, showing no signs of fatigue she finished in 48:27.

Saturday saw seven brave HRR take on the Fuddy Muckers Sandman at Bures Pit. This 6k extreme off road challenge entails chest high muddy pits, mud, freezing cold water, mud, numerous obstacles to tackle and more mud. No official times for the seven, just battle wounds to show for their efforts. This wasn’t enough for Nia Fortuna, James Leaney and Jim Clark who all raced in events the following day. The HRR team included James Leaney, Nia Fortuna, Jenn Langley, Jim Clark , Megan Hollinshead, Hazel Buist and Jon Buist

Halstead Road Runners welcomes new runners of any ability to our beginners group on Saturday mornings 9am at Courtaulds Sports Ground, Colchester Road.
