‘Young’ Man Maurice Double World Champion!!

Our very own Team Halstead Road Runner  Maurice Young has done it again and become Age-Group World Duathlon Champion for the second year running!

Having won in the 75-79 age group in Canada last year, Maurice has gone one better and WON the over 80 age group category sprint distance event held in Pontevedra, Spain last month.

The retired solicitor from Braintree, who only took up his fitness regime at the ripe old age of 50 when he found he was struggling to keep up with his terrier dog, set an impressive time over the dual running and cycling event. His overall time was an impressive 1 hour 46 minutes over the three leg event. This consisted of a five kilometre run followed by a 20 kilometre cycle ride and finishing with another 2.5 kilometre run. On the bike, Maurice managed to hit a maximum speed of 34.7 mph at one stage!

What can you say about the man? He is an utter legend and what an inspiration to all athletes, no matter what your ability. This supreme effort just shows that anything is achievable in sport, you get out what you put in!
