Friday 21 July 7pm: Chappel Group Run – 5.3 miles – Most of the Chappel Ale Trail route. The brewery won’t be open, but maybe we could hit The Swan after for a sociable drink together for those that want to?! Even if that means abandoning cars at the station and getting the train back to Colchester afterwards? Meet by the steam engine outside the front of Chappel & Wakes Colne Station, Wakes Colne, Colchester CO6 2DS. Plenty of free parking there.
Colchester Foodbank is the busiest in the East of England and has dwindling stock reserves, with demand increasing 31.25% over 2021, while food donations have been decreasing due to the cost of living crisis.
Company of Runners have been organising Group Runs to help. They have been massively successful and so we have added to the schedule (up until the end of the summer 2023 for now but with more being planned….).
Your “entry fee” is to bring us min one item from the Foodbank shopping list – it need only be as little as a bottle of shampoo or a small bag of rice and we’ll take them to the Foodbank. The Foodbank have been delighted with what we have donated from previous runs. The Halloween run alone donated over 53 kg of items! Many thanks to all of you who have donated so far.
As England Athletics qualified Leaders in Running Fitness, we love to take groups of runners out on to the trails. The Group Runs will be a mixture of distances from four miles to marathon distance, but the entry fee will always remain the same: one item from the Foodbank list. And we will always make sure to create trail routes that are stunning to run and packed full of interesting features. It’s worth pointing out that these are group runs for all running abilities, and we will always keep the group together, so if you are looking for a PB-experience this will not be for you. These will be more of a social, chatty, support-each-other type run. Ideal if you want to build experience on trails or want to run with others and make running friends rather than always running solo.
