CROSS COUNTRY SENIORS
Sunday saw the 1st race of the season in the NESS cross country league at Hilly Fields in Colchester, hosted by Great Bentley Running Club.
Conditions proved challenging due to the recent rain which continued to fall throughout the race providing the runners with lots of puddles and mud to contend with, with many downhills and corners in the wooded areas giving the runners plenty to think about.
First home for club was Wes Atkins in 32nd place, not far behind him in 43rd was Nathan Roulson.
Stephen Metson, in his 1st race since his excellent marathon performance in Amsterdam, was next home in 53rd position with Steve May close behind in 59th.
Gavin Ripton, competing in his 2nd race of the weekend having raced at a Nuclear OCR the day before finished in 112th place and Darren Powell completed the scoring team for the men in 116th.
Aidan Kelly, making his XC debut for HRR, finished in 125th with Alan Fancy hot on his heels 1 place back on 126th. Neil Poulter was smiling as ever as he crossed the line in 142nd. Sam Wolton had a brilliant sprint finish to complete the race in 154th with Andy Carter bringing the mens team home not far behind in 158th.
For the ladies, Wendy Carter was 1st back in 73rd position with Victoria Metson, 80th and Emma Healy, after losing her footing on a slippery incline and landing in the mud, right in front of her watching children, in 81st completing the scoring side for the ladies team.
Anna Bambridge, making a welcome return to the XC scene which she admitted she secretly enjoyed, finished in 101st place with Lauren Ripton joining her husband on competing in an OCR/XC weekend double, completing the ladies side in 113th place.
Well done all HRR competing in those conditions today.Next up on 27/11 in the NESS League is HRR’s own race at Gosfield School.

CROSS COUNTRY JUNIORS!
The first race this season for our fantastic cross country junior team, at Hilly fields, Colchester.
There was ALOT of rain and ALOT of mud but they did us proud as usual!!
Watching them run is always a pleasure!
