It’s been another busy weekend for HRR, with members racing at home and abroad, chasing PBs, taking on new challenges and helping others achieve their goals. From Budapest to Felixstowe, there’s plenty to celebrate!
CHELMSFORD LITTLE HAVENS HOSPICE HALF MARATHON
The Chelmsford Little Havens Hospice Half Marathon brought together runners racing in support of a worthy cause. HRR had five runners out on the course.
An excellent run from Matt Thomas finishing in 1:20.41, 14th overall and 2nd in the V35 category. He also knocked seven seconds off his half marathon PB.
Isabelle Alcon Gardner has recently started attending HRR’s Wednesday night sessions. She enjoyed a fantastic race finishing in 1:45.26. A great way to introduce herself to the club!
Well done to Len Marten for a strong effort over the half marathon distance finishing in 1:56:43 and achieving a brand new PB.
It was a brilliant personal best for Gary Wiles in 2:08.23 taking nearly 3 minutes off his previous PB time. Congratulations Gary.
Well done to Jane Roach for completing 2:15.38.
This was John Warne’s first half marathon of the year and he was pleased to finish in 2:34.40.
BUDAPEST 30K AND HALF MARATHON
HRR went international this weekend, with members taking to the streets of Budapest. The 30K race attracted more than 1,300 runners, while the half marathon offered another opportunity to test fitness and chase a fast time.
Laurence Gowers had a fantastic day at the Budapest 30K, finishing as the first British runner and 27th out of 1,337 participants.
Laurence set out to run three 10K sections at 45 minutes each and was delighted with how the race went. He also recorded a half marathon PB, and finished with a time of 2:15:33. A brilliant performance!
Aidan Kelly took on the half marathon in Budapest, finishing in 1:43:52. Great running, Aidan!
CHICHESTER GOODWOOD 10K
The Goodwood 10K offers runners the chance to test themselves around the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit, with a relatively flat course that can be ideal for chasing times.
Lois Watson has been suffering with an injury but still completed in 1:13. Well done Lois.
The focus now is on continuing the recovery.
TIPTREE 10
The Tiptree 10 is a popular Essex road race, giving runners a chance to test themselves over the 10 mile distance. HRR had a strong turnout, with nine runners competing and club members also taking on pacing duties to help others reach their goals.
James North achieved a 10 mile race PB in 1:05:53.
Rachael Roughan and Nina Symington-Smith ran together finishing in 1:13.13 and 1:13:14 respectively. A fantastic race for Nina with a brand new PB and a county silver age group medal.
Noush Springett had a great race in 1:23:57 finishing with a 9 second PB.
Gavin Ripton paced 1:30 finishing in 1:28:55.
A great run for Dan Roughan in 1:33:28.
Paul Gerrard was very pleased with his 1:35:33 finish.
Sam Wolton was pacing 1:45 and crossed the line in 1:43:36.
A special mention goes to Jenny Smith, who took on the 1:50 pacing role despite it being well outside her comfort zone. She finished in 1:49:37, right on target!
Even better, Jenny helped one runner complete their longest ever distance without walking and another achieve a PB. That’s what running is all about, supporting one another and helping people achieve things they might not have thought possible.
GREAT EASTERN RUN HALF MARATHON
The Great Eastern Run takes runners through the streets of Peterborough.
Nathan McGregor finished in 1:53:23, beating his target of 1:54. Even better, he took an impressive 6 minutes and 49 seconds off his previous PB. A brilliant performance and a well deserved reward for the training!
THE FORT 20-MILE TRAIL RUN, FELIXSTOWE
The Fort 20 is a long distance trail challenge around Felixstowe, starting and finishing at Languard Fort. The event offers runners the chance to enjoy coastal scenery and the route features mostly flat terrain. The wind and shingle underfoot added an extra challenge.
Emma Healy and Victoria Metson took on the 20 mile distance and thoroughly enjoyed the trail. A last minute route changed took the race distance up to 20.7 miles. They finished in 3:53.
Both recommend it to fellow trail running enthusiasts looking for their next challenge.
ROYAL PARKS HALF MARATHON
A closed road Half Marathon through central London, passing world famous landmarks and four Royal Parks on a scenic 13.1 Mile course.
Ryan Miller had a great run finishing in 1:46.57.
Well done all!
