The Essex XC championship race took place on Saturday at Gloucester park in Basildon. A tough course at the best of times, the recent wet weather made for very muddy, slippery conditions under foot. We had three HRR tackling it, Matt Thomas, James North and Bradley Doe. It was a 12 km race for the men which meant three laps of the course. Each lap included three steep hills. For a little light relief there was a 45m marquee tunnel, complete with DJ and spectators cheering, which runners ran through after each lap.
There were 223 runners in the men’s race. First home for Halstead was Matt Thomas in 52:28 claiming 82nd place. James North took 102nd place in 55:07. Bradley Doe finished 177th in 1:03.27. Well done Team, superb running!
