The London Marathon, was established in 1981 by Olympic steeplechase medallists Chris Brasher and John Disley. They were determined that the London Marathon would showcase the very best of the capital. They also declared the event would help people ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’. This was certainly the case on Sunday when an estimated 750,000 spectators headed to the capital to support and cheer on the 50,000 runners and wheelchair athletes who took part.  As usual the atmosphere was fantastic and the crowds were amazing.
HRR had 12 runners competing and they were all brilliant to watch on the course. Rachel Rising was running with a championship place, she was first home for Halstead in an absolutely fantastic sub 3 hour time of 2:58.10. Karen Pickering running with her second championship place finished in 3:03.36. Running her third marathon, was Hayley Lamkin who finished with a 5 minute PB in 3:08.16. Looking strong Keely Jordan finished in 3:24.55.  Rachael Roughan has been training hard for a sub 3.30 marathon, making it look easy she finished in 3:26.17. Coach to three of our ladies, Tracy English ran with keely and enjoyed the atmosphere finishing in 3:29.39. Ian Wingrove crossed the line in 3:57.42. It was great to see Bob Langley out on the course. Coming back from injury he completed in 4:07.14. Winner of the club’s London marathon place, Darren Powell, did the club proud. He kept a smile on his face even with a few niggles along the way. Loving the experience he finished in 4:31.08. For Noush Springett this was a ballot place win from last year. Having trained so hard for this, Noush sustained an injury with only a few weeks to go. It was touch and go whether she’d make it to the start line but she did, and she dug deep and crossed the line in 4:47.59. Another ballot place winner, Jo Roulson trained consistently and the training paid off. She kept that smile on her face and finished in 5:20.54.
BARROW MARATHON
Our marathon man, Andy Wilmot didn’t travel as far as London but headed to Barrow to take on his 844th marathon. Still coming back from
Injury he walked it finishing in 6:42.
NICE HALF
Caroliena Cameron headed to France on Sunday to run the Nice half marathon. She definitely had more sunshine than us and after running Manchester half last weekend she ran another great time of 1:54.14.
Another fantastic weekend of running for the HRR team.
