A weekend of running and cycling, with a long awaited sub 20 minute 5K, a first 100 mile cycling challenge and a humid trail run all featuring in the weekend’s activities.
PARKRUN
Laurence Gowers finally did it at Cornard parkrun on Saturday, breaking the 20 minute barrier he had been chasing for some time. Laurence crossed the line in an excellent 19:42, finishing 11th male overall and taking first place in the VM50–54 age category. A fantastic result after a determined chase for that sub 20 goal.
RIDE ESSEX
On Sunday, Len Marten completed the 100 mile Ride Essex “Champion” route. The course proved tough towards the end, with hills and headwinds making the final stages particularly challenging.
This was Len’s first organised ride at that distance taking him well beyond his usual riding distance and firmly outside his comfort zone. A superb achievement and a great challenge completed.
MEC TRAIL
Also on Sunday, Treena Carder and Phil Jeffries took part in the Scouting Trail, organised by Mid Essex Casuals. In humid conditions, the pair ran the 4.75 mile route together, finishing joint first in an impressive time of 52:00.
