A festive favourite in the HRR calendar saw faces new and old take on the Boxing Day Turkey Trot. The event involves a 5km dash around Halstead town where runners and walkers aim to finish as close as possible to their predicted time. This is made more tricky by a ban on wearing or taking along all timing devices. Participants are also encouraged to run in fancy dress with a prize on offer to those deemed to be the best dressed.
Perry James was awarded the Fred Humphries trophy for the second time in three years after finishing within 5 seconds of his predicted time. Neil Addington was closely behind in second place with an 18 second difference with Andy&Wendy Carter sharing third place with a 20 second difference. These three were also awarded cash prizes with the money being kindly donated by former member, Brian Brown.
There was an abundance of guest runners and walkers at the event which was fantastic to see. One guest runner, Sam T, finished dead on his predicted time of 27 minutes. Although ineligible to win a cash prize, there is a little something for him so get in touch Sam!
The fancy dress competition was hotly contested and their efforts was much appreciated by the locals who got to see them on route. Andy Carter was chosen as the winner with his more feminine ensemble – Ru Paul is calling for you Andy…
A huge thanks goes to Bob Langley for another expertly organised event and for providing the post race refreshments. 2023 has been a year of tremendous growth for the club and it is wonderful to see so many new members taking part in its old traditions.
