The sun definitely had his hat on over the weekend and there were a number of HRR making the most of the beautiful weather.
HARE AND TORTOISE SPRING VXV EVENT
John Warne ran the Hare and Tortoise event on Saturday. It consisted of distance options of 5,10 and 15 miles with each lap being 5 miles. Predominately a trail, it was very hilly. John ran 15.2 miles, his longest run of the year, in 3:02:34.
HIGHWAY MAN SELF NAVIGATION TRAIL MARATHON
Steve May ran the Highwayman trail self navigational marathon on Sunday. Starting and finishing at Thaxted village hall it took in the trails around Thaxted, Great Sampford & Hempstead. It was a lovely route but made tough by being a lot warmer than expected. Steve had a superb run and finished 2nd male and 3rd overall in a time of 4.42.
HERITAGE COAST TRAIL HALF MARATHON
HRR had one runner at the Heritage coast trail half marathon on Sunday. Starting and finishing in Thorpness, the course was mainly off road with some sandy trails and undulations along the coast. It was another fantastic run for Matt Thomas, he finished 1st place overall in 1:27.57.
BURY TO CLARE
This 18 mile run, in support of St Nicholas Hospice Care goes from Bury St Edmunds to Clare. It follows a gently undulating countryside route. HRR had 6 taking on the challenge. Steve Fellowes, Luis Betancourt Canas and Ross Kemble ran together finishing in 3:04:35. Steve and Ross were using it as a training run ahead of Halstead marathon next week. Maryann Sycamore enjoyed the race and completed in 3:51:16. It was a last minute entry for Jane Roach and she beat her 2018 time finishing in 3:57:21. Neil Addington  crossed the line in 4:29:06.
SWAN LorR
There were three routes to choose from on this Mid Essex casuals trail race. A 7 mile long route right, a 7 mile long route left and a short route of 4.5 miles. HRR had five opting for the short route and one for the long. Caroliena Cameron ran the 7 mile route in 1:06.40. Karen Pickering and her husband opted for the 4.5 mile finishing joint first place in 42:25. Trail lovers, Wendy Carter and Lisa Rodbourn ran together and finished joint 3rd place in 46:42. It was Lauren Ripton’s first race back after having her beautiful baby girl only six months ago. Aiming for under an hour, she ran with husband Gav and they completed in 59:42.
WITHAM MAY DAY 5.
There were 9 HRR at Witham 5 on Monday. The course is pitched as a fast, undulating, and rural all road course. Ian Wingrove was first home for Halstead in 11th place overall in 29:10. James North, preparing for Halstead marathon next Sunday, ran a great race in 32:17. Rachael Roughan also getting marathon race ready for next Sunday, used it as a training run and finished in 38:34. Securing himself a 5 mile PB, Dan Roughan finished in 39:17. Running together, Emma Healy and ladies Captain Victoria Metson achieved PBs of over 3 minutes. They finished in 39:24. In her second race of the weekend, Caroliena Cameron finished in 39:26. Her first race in a while, Lisa Clark crossed the line in 43:45. Jenny Smith enjoyed the race and finished in 48:37.
