From fast 5Ks to battling through the heat to 100k, it was another busy weekend of running for HRR.
COLCHESTER FRIDAY NIGHT 5k
The Colchester Friday Night 5K provided a great opportunity for people to test themselves over the fast 5K distance, and there were some fantastic performances especially given the very warm evening conditions.
Leading the way was Ian Wingrove, who crossed the line in 16:40, which was a brilliant run and new PB.
James North also enjoyed a new PB, stopping the clock at 19:18 and Luis Betancourt Canas was thrilled to achieve a new PB of 19:29.
Laurence Gowers finished in 20:15 which was so close to his sub 20 goal.
Nina Symington Smith also finished with a fantastic new PB of 21:53.
Noush Springett finished in 23:44, heading into the race simply to see what she could do and producing a solid performance in the process.
Nathan McGregor found the heat tough but refused to give in. He persevered to finish in 25:31, showing exactly what racing is all about.
Well done Team! A fantastic set of performances from everyone who took on the 5K.
SVP 50k and 100k
On Saturday the SVP 100 provided a completely different challenge, with two very different but equally impressive stories.
Ross Kemble took on the 50k challenge and used the event as part of his preparation for his 100 mile challenge in September. Having walked from mile 15, Ross completed the event in 7 hours, taking a steady approach and putting the miles in the bank as part of his training for the big one.
Matt Biggin, meanwhile, had a seriously challenging day out. Taking on the 100k challenge, the heat caused major problems early on and it was, quite possibly, one of the toughest days out he has experienced. Despite the difficulties, Matt kept plugging away and refused to give up, eventually completing the course in 15:06.
Sometimes the biggest achievements aren’t the fastest times, they’re the ones where you keep moving despite everything your body is telling you to stop. Well done, Matt.
UK POLICE UNITY TOUR
Away from running, Aidan Kelly took part in his third UK Police Unity cycle Tour, a hugely meaningful event which saw him spend three days riding 180 miles from London to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The annual ride is held in support of Care of Police Survivors (COPS), remembering police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and supporting their surviving families.
