It’s been a busy weekend for the club, with runners taking in everything from an ultramarathon to half marathons. There were some great PBs, a first half marathon, some tough challenges and, most importantly, lots of smiles and good experiences along the way. Well done to everyone who got out there and represented the club!
The LAP
A huge well done to our Ladies Captain, Bec Gilroy, who took on The LAP on Saturday.
The LAP is a seriously tough 45mile (72km) ultra around Windermere, taking in some stunning but challenging Lake District trails, with around 2,500m of ascent along the route. With a mixture of singletrack, forest trails, fell paths and some steep sections, it’s a real test of endurance.
Bec completed the full course in an incredible 14 hours, showing huge determination throughout.
What an achievement Bec! Huge congratulations!
PLESHEY HALF MARATHON
The Pleshey Half Marathon provided a challenging but enjoyable morning for the HRR team. It was a wet morning to start, but thankfully remained dry throughout the race.

Rachael Roughan followed with a strong 1:37:35.
Nina Symington-Smith had a fantastic run, finishing in 1:39:53 with a PB. Brilliant running, Nina!
Sam Wolton was next in 1:45:32.
He was followed closely by Bailey Cook, who produced another great performance with a new PB of 1:45:34. Well done Bailey!
Laura Smith also had a brilliant run, finishing in 1:50:33 and picking up a new PB. Great stuff, Laura!
Ryan Miller came home in 1:54:13.
Anoushka Springett used the race as a training run and finished in 1:56:37.
Daniel Roughan had reason to celebrate, recording a new PB of 2:00:01, just one second outside the two hour mark! Fantastic running Dan!
Nathan McGregor completed his first ever official half marathon, finishing in 2:00:51 which was an 18 minute PB on his unofficial time.
Paul Hinsley followed in 2:01:07, with Paul Gerrard finishing in 2:15:58.
Jane Roach and Len Marten ran together, supporting each other throughout the race. Jane finished in 2:21:11, with Len just behind in 2:21:15.
A great morning for HRR.
NEW FOREST HALF MARATHON
It was a fantastic run at the New Forest Half Marathon for Laurence Gowers. The event is a scenic and popular race through the beautiful New Forest, offering runners a great mix of challenging roads, countryside views and a fantastic atmosphere.
Laurence came away with a brilliant two minute PB, finishing in 1:34:40. He had a great race to finish 68th out of 1,691 runners, putting him comfortably inside the top 100. A really strong performance and a well earned PB. Well done Laurence!
GREAT NORTH RUN
A brilliant day at the Great North Run for Gary Wiles and Katie de Bourcier, who both had a fantastic experience at this iconic event.
Katie, despite having barely run since Spitfire while dealing with hip and glute issues, decided to give it a go. She ran, walked, enjoyed the atmosphere, Haribos and ice pops along the way, and finished in an amazing 3:24:03, well inside the sub four hours she had hoped for. What a result!
Gary finished in 2:42:04. With 63,000 runners taking part, it was never really about chasing a time. It was about soaking up the incredible atmosphere and the added perks including enjoying the free beers at mile 10! Well done Gary and Katie!
