It was another busy weekend for Halstead Road Runners, with club members taking on a real mix of events, from cross country and road racing to fitness challenges and an off road cycle.
ESSEX CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS
The cross country season got underway at Chingford Plain in Epping Forest, with a small team representing Halstead Road Runners at the Essex Cross Country Relays.
We had one V50 men’s team made up of Simon Miller, Simon Smith and Paul Hinsley, and a V40 ladies’ team of Mandy Humm, Victoria Metson and Emma Healy.
Maryann Sycamore also took part, running the first leg, although unfortunately the rest of her team were unable to attend due to some last minute unforeseen issues.
The course was two laps on a mixture of grass and track, making it a nice introduction to the cross country season. Despite being a cross country race, there wasn’t a patch of mud in sight thanks to the recent fair weather!
NUCLEAR FIT DOUBLES
Rachael Roughan and Noush Springett swapped running for a different kind of challenge at the Nuclear Fit Doubles. The race format combines six 1km trail runs with intense fitness stations with teamwork playing a big part.
The pair put in a strong performance to finish 5th place. Fantastic result!
FELIXSTOWE COASTAL 10
Organised by Felixstowe roadrunners, the 10 mile course is nearly all tarmac promenade, pavement or road but between the Ferry and the Martello Tower there can sometimes be a stretch of heavy shingle. Luke Allen, Gav Allen and Alice Ablitt represented the club.
Fantastic running from who Luke finished in 1:05:39, with Gav just behind in 1:06:59.
Alice also had a strong run, finishing in 2:08:14.
CHAS AVIS HARVEST TRAIL HALF MARATHON
Hosted by Royston Runners, the Chas Avis Harvest Trail takes runners through the scenic Hertfordshire countryside around Royston and Therfield. A challenging off road race with a friendly club atmosphere and plenty of post race cake!
Emma Healy and Victoria Metson both finished the Half Marathon in 2:35, taking 3rd in their respective age categories. Both found the trail challenging but really enjoyed it and would recommend the event.
THE LUCKY HORSESHOE MARATHON
This multi terrain marathon took place at Zig Zag running centre in Suffolk. It was two out and back loops to make up the marathon distance. Andy Wilmot completed it in 6:15, taking his grand marathon total up to 878. Well done Andy!
LONDON TO BRIGHTON OFF ROAD CYCLE
And finally, Len Marten swapped his running shoes for the bike and took on the London to Brighton Off Road Cycle, tackling the route from London to the south coast. 61 miles (approx. 100 km) starting in Walton-on-Thames and finishing at Hove Lawns in Brighton.
