Despite the wet and windy conditions Halstead Road Runners were representing the club in various events around the country today.

A large contingent took a road trip to the Steyning Stinger Half and Full Marathon. Official results are awaited and will follow. In the half distance Treena Carder, Caroliena Cameron, Kris Bell, Phil Jeffries and Sam Wolton ran together getting extremely muddy. They were running sideways at the highest points where sadly many of the views were obscured. Competing in the full distance, which had 3,500 ft of elevation, were Nathan Roulson, Bob Langley, Gavin Allen, Dan Hollinshead and Jim Clark. Credit goes to the organisers, Steyning AC, for putting on a great event which runners return to year after year. The food in particular sounded impressive with marshals offering home baked brownies. Nathan Roulson even enjoyed a warm bacon sandwich at the 18 mile point. There was a also free cooked breakfast for runners after the race.

Another group of Road Runners headed to the Cambridge Half Marathon where several personal bests were set. Lisa Clark knocked 3 minutes off her previous best to finish in 1:56:49 with Sandi Robinson-Miller just seconds behind 1:56:54. Darren Powell shaved 4 minutes off his in 1:57:43. Ladies Captain, Charlotte May, who won her place in a competition run by local company Eat Natural, knocked just over 2 minutes off her Cardiff Half time to set a new PB of 2:18:54. Charlotte is training for London Marathon as is Nina Powell who crossed the line in 2:24:16.

The home fixture was the Essex 20 which is an Essex championship race and also an inter-county match with 7 counties represented. James Smith was first Road Runner back in 2:07 followed by Tom Porter in 2:20 knocking 8 minutes off his previous best.
