REMEMBRANCE DAY RUNNING
It was great to see so many Halstead Roadrunners out racing for Remembrance Day this weekend!

CARVER BARRACKS
On Saturday Reece Hearn headed to Carver Barracks, (Formerly Debden Airfield) for their annual Remembrance Half Marathon. The event venue itself was used during the Battle of Britain in World War 2 so a perfect place to host a remembrance run. With the course being incredibly flat and with no sharp corners, the course has PB potential! Making the most of this, Reece got himself a 3 minute PB of 1.22.33 and an aeroplane shaped course map on strava! (Who doesn’t love strava right??) Reece is now looking forward to getting stuck into marathon training over the coming winter months.

HARE and TORTOISE
Andy Wilmot and John Warne were in Brightlingsea on Sunday taking part in the Hare and Tortoise Remembrance run. The course followed an undulating, traffic free 6.55 mile pathway and participants had 6 hours to complete as many (or as few) laps as they wished. Both John and Andy ran 4 laps which was slightly over marathon distance. This was John’s 69th marathon and he finished in 5:31:57 and Andy was running his 825th marathon and he crossed the line in 5:50. Well done to both!

THE HOBBLE
Always held on Remembrance Sunday is Springfield Striders Hobble race. It is the longest established trail race in Essex. Runners choose between a 16.5 or 5.5 mile (approximate) race on paths, tracks and country lanes. Loving the trails, Keely Jordan opted for the 16.5 mile race. Even with a lot of wrong turns and getting lost several times Keely still finished 2nd lady in a time of 2:43:42. Fantastic running Keely!!

STEBBING 10….
The popular Stebbing 10 is a highly regarded scenic course run on quiet country lanes. What makes this race special is that before it begins, runners gather at 11am outside the local church to pay their respects with two minutes silence, as part of the Remembrance Day service.

We had a fantastic HRR turnout this year with 16 road runners taking part.Chris lloyd, running his first 10 miler in four years was first to finish for Halstead with a massive 10 minute PB of 1:05:11. He was 21st overall out of 451 runners and 20th out of 265 men. Stephen Metson came next in 1:06:07 a PB of 26 seconds. He was 26th overall and 23rd man.Running his fastest 10 mile race in six years, Paul Hinsley finished in 1:12:34.

Our first lady home was Rachael Roughan in 1:13:05 placing 14th out of 186 women.Crossing the line next was Glynn Stone in 1:19:39. Making his debut for Halstead and running his longest distance yet was Ian Tutton finishing in an impressive time of 1:20:24. Alan Fancy recently returning from injury secured himself a PB of 1:21:34. Neil Poulter crossed the line in 1:23:00.

Also making his debut for Halstead and running his first 10 mile race was Edward Fairhurst finishing in 1:27:17. Setting himself a solid time to beat at his next 10 miler! Hot on his heels and getting stronger and stronger was Sarah Waddington. Sarah secured herself a 3 minute PB of 1:27:18 which was 6 minutes faster than last years race.Ross Kemble who has started Manchester marathon training finished in 1:28:01.

Also having begun Manchester marathon training and using it as one of their training runs, Perry James, Anoushka Springett and Joe Slee ran together. Running at a comfortable pace they finished in 1:29:32. This was Anoushka’s first race for HRR so big well done to her! Ian Stokoe crossed the line in 1:31:11 and bringing Halstead home was Dan Roughan in 1:33:50.

Well done to all!!
