AUTUMN RACING
Near and far we had 2 runners out road racing this weekend giving brilliant performances, achieving goals and personal bests!! We also had 4 of our trail loving runners out enjoying the wet and muddy conditions!
VERONA MARATHON
Held annually in the autumn in the city of Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is the Verona Marathon. Starting and finishing on Piazza Bra, the mainly flat route runs through the beautiful historic centre, along the Canale Camuzzoni and along the Adige river. Having recently run the Chicago marathon, Paul Hinsley was disappointed to have missed the good for age qualifying time for the New York marathon by only 14 seconds. With New York firmly in his sights his goal in Verona was to get under 3:34:00. Paul had perfect running conditions, cool but sunny. Both the full and half marathon runners started together so there was some congestion until the half marathoners peeled off at their finish point. He struggled towards the end, getting overtaken by the 3:30 pacer but persevered and crossed the line in 3:31:26. Paul said that this will absolutely be his last marathon ever (until New York next year!😉)
Massive well done to Paul!
ADNAMS 10k
A little closer to home ….
Adnams hosts an annual 10k in November, in their hometown of Southwold. With wonderful scenery along the route, the Adnams 10k is one of the most popular running events in the region. It is a circular route, involving two-and-a-half laps. The harbour can be challenging with its shingle surface, and this year to add to the fun it was also flooded. There is a bit of an incline on the way to the finish, but none of this deterred Bec Gilroy who got herself a 12 minute course PB crossing the line in 59:11. Bec is coming back from injury so an extra special achievement! Well done Bec!
PICKLES TRAIL RUN
We had 4 roadrunners out enjoying the Pickles Trail run in Dunmow on Sunday. A 6.5mile (approximate) self navigation trail race using a written route description, which is issued on the day. There are no markings or marshals and no GPX. Extremely wet and extremely muddy but apparently great fun! Chris Lloyd and Keely Jordan ran together finishing in 1:03:45 and Phil Jeffries and Treena Carder also ran together finishing in 1:15:33.
