Powered by the sunshine and running for chocolate, HRR had lots of runners out and about, making the most of the bank holiday!
BARROW MARATHON
Andy Wilmot was back at the Suffolk running centre completing his 830th!!! Marathon. He had a brilliant run and finished in 5:09.00, his fastest time in a long while.
SUDBURY 5 MILE
We had 6 yellow vests at the popular Sudbury 5 mile race, a mainly flat route with a little undulation here and there. Alan Fancy, getting race ready for London which is in just 3 weeks time had a great race and was first home for Halstead in 39:09. Running together were Mandy Humm and Anoushka Springett who are both running the Manchester Marathon in only 2 weeks time. It was Noush’s first time at the Sudbury 5 and both Noush and Mandy enjoyed the route and the atmosphere. Having had a comfortable race Mandy crossed the line in 43:09 and Noush in 43:23. Joby Humm wasn’t far behind the ladies crossing the line in 43:38. Val Kerrison had a great run finishing in 49:51 and Jane Roach completing the line up finishing in 50:30.
EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA
The Easter Eggstravaganza is a series of self navigational trail runs of differing distances, put on by different running clubs all starting and finishing at local pubs. What better excuse is there for a run?
The Bell at Panfield was the venue for the 1st day, with the Mid Essex Casuals putting on two different distances.
The only Halstead members to tackle the 11.2 mile distance, which headed out over the fields towards Rayne and Great Saling, were Steve May and Caroliena Cameron, (who took a little detour and did an extra mile!!) Over the shorter distance of 5.6 miles, Treena Carder, Emma Healy, Victoria Metson, Karen Pickering & Lisa Clarke all enjoyed the beautiful sunshine whilst running through the countryside.
Day 2 saw Little Baddow Ridge Runners put on two runs from the General’s Arms pub in Little Baddow. The fact that the pub is based on top of a very steep hill gave the runners an idea of what was awaiting them. On the hilly 10 mile course, which was fairly soft underfoot in places and took in a local ford, Keely Jordan continued her fine trail form being 1st lady back. Steve May also ran the longer route and added a little distance to his run by taking a wrong footpath through the woods in the last mile. On the 5 mile course, Emma Healy and Victoria Metson were also out in the sun again, this time joined by Lorraine Garnham and husband and wife team Gav and Lauren Ripton.
The Prince of Wales in Broxted near Dunmow was the venue for the Easter Sunday event. Another beautiful sunny day brought HRR members out in force. With just the one distance of 6.8 miles all the runners were tackling the same route. Steve May, Keely Jordan, Lauren and Gav Ripton were all out again, this time joined by Joby and Mandy Humm, Caroliena Cameron, Anna Bambridge, Treena Carder (on her second run of the weekend), Phil Jeffries and HRR Chairperson Charlotte May. Unfortunately Emma Healy & Victoria Metson started the race but had to drop out due to Victoria picking up an injury.
Springfield Striders hosted the final race on a wet and windy Monday at the Rose & Crown pub in Great Waltham. Once again it was just the single distance of 6.2 miles for the runners to take on. Steve May, Caroliena Cameron, Anna Bambridge, Lauren and Gav Ripton, Treena Carder and Phil Jeffries were joined by Rachael and Dan Roughan for this last run. There was some good running all round from HRR over the weekend on some tricky trails. Well done everyone who took part.
With all four runs completed and the times logged, it’s participants best three times that count on the leaderboard. Running 4/4 events Steve May finished 5th overall
Another great weekends running everyone!!!
