Another bank holiday weekend this time bringing some pretty BIG challenges!
BURY TO CLARE CHALLENGE
An 18 mile route through the gently undulating countryside of West Suffolk in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care. The challenge is to complete within eight hours. We had four roadrunners taking on the 18 miles and the recent wet weather meant the hills and ground conditions got tougher as the race went on. Between miles 13-16 it was almost impossible to run due to the mud and runners were faced with a fast flowing ford above ankle height. Darren Powell, Steve Fellowes and Ross Kemble ran together. Using it as a training run for other events coming up later in 2023. It was Steves first time at this race and he thoroughly enjoyed the day and was strong throughout on a new route. Steve finished slightly ahead of the others in 3:31. This was Darren’s third time at this event and this year was by far the most challenging. Darren and Ross took it easy after the 10th mile as Ross is getting ready to run Halstead marathon next weekend. They crossed the line together in 3:33.Sandy Maloy was also out on the course and found it tough, with mud caked shoes and cramp in her feet she still made it to the end in 4:12.
THE TWO CASTLES TRAIL HALF MARATHON
The Two Castles Trail half marathon is a narrative trail race with written instructions. Following a circular route around the villages near both Hedingham and Clare Castles, the route is 90% off road on a wide variety of terrain. Only a week after running Nice half marathon Caroliena Cameron was back in race mode! A gorgeous trail but so muddy and with a shallow river to overcome meant that it was difficult to navigate. Caroliena took several wrong turns (along with a lot of other runners!) and the half marathon turned into a 15 and half miler. However, she was still smiling as she crossed the line in 3:07, taking 5th place overall and 3rd lady. Some great photos of both events thanks to Darren Powell and Top day events.
