HILLY FIELDS CROSS COUNTRY

On an almost summer-like day, 13 Road Runners took on Round 3 of the Ness XC league hosted by Great Bentley RC at Hilly Fields in Colchester. With the warm weather of the last few days and the sun continuing to beat down, the technical course with its gravel paths, field edges and tough hilly sections was firm underfoot with [...]

NESS XC

10 hardy HRR runners took on round 2 of the NESS XC league at Wix Equestrian Centre near Harwich on Sunday. In a complete contrast to round 1, which was run on a beautifully sunny day on well managed school fields, today's race was what some people might call "Proper cross country ". 40mph winds, wet & boggy ploughed fields, mud [...]

DECEMBER RUNNING

As we approach the end of the year it’s great to hear people are getting close to and achieving their running goals. THE LONDON TEN Well done to Aidan Kelly, Emma Healy and Mandy Humm taking part in The London Ten, a 10k race at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Sunday. Aidan had a great race, aiming to get as close [...]

Weekend running

ESSEX LEAGUE CROSS COUNTRY In the penultimate round of the Essex Cross Country League, HRR had 5 athletes in action. The venue was Writtle College University and the fast/flat terrain was ideal along with the mild dry weather. The women's 2 lap race measured 4.6 miles and saw 138 finishers. Noush Springett led the way for Halstead, finishing 71st in [...]

WEEKEND RUNNING

ESSEX LEAGUE CROSS COUNTRY The third race in the Essex Cross Country league was held at Hilly fields in Colchester. The clue is in the name, and yes it definitely is a ‘hilly’ venue. However, with recent dry weather the course was kinder than it could have been. HRR had three ladies running the 4.5 mile course which was longer than [...]

JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY

We love it when our juniors take part in the Cross Country Season. The first race in the NESS League saw Toby Metson and Callum Roughan giving it their all for the boys and Evelyn Roulson, Lois Roulson and Amalie Twydell smashing it for the girls. Our girls team finished in 4th place and our boys in 7th, leaving us [...]

NESS LEAGUE XC

Sunday saw Ipswich Jaffas host the first race of the new Ness XC league on the grounds in and around Ipswich High School. 22 Halstead Road Runners turned out on a beautifully sunny day to tackle the twisty course with a few little hills and a stile thrown in for good measure. For the ladies Rachael Roughan, who was running [...]

ESSEX CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE ROUND 2

Round Two of the Essex Cross Country League took place at Gloucester Park, Basildon. The very popular venue saw 139 finishers in the women's 4.4 mile race and 267 in the men's 5.2 mile race. In perfect weather and ground conditions both races got off to a fast start until the runners got to the second part of the lap, [...]

ESSEX CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS

Saturday morning saw the running of the Essex cross country relays at Weald Country Park near Brentwood. Halstead had 13 runners taking part in 4 teams over the 2 lap 6k course which had a couple of long, slow climbing hills on each lap. In near perfect weather for running with the ground soft underfoot there were good performances all round. [...]

LAST XC OF THE SEASON

Sunday saw the last race of the Ness XC league race season at Hadleigh in Suffolk. A 2 lap course well known for its challenging hills was made even tougher by the constant rain turning the course into a mud bath in places and making running very difficult. Going into the race Halstead were in top spot in Pool B [...]
