As we approach the end of the year it’s great to hear people are getting close to and achieving their running goals.
THE LONDON TEN
Well done to Aidan Kelly, Emma Healy and Mandy Humm taking part in The London Ten, a 10k race at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Sunday. Aidan had a great race, aiming to get as close to 46 minutes as he could he finished in 46:35. Emma has been training hard after being disappointed with her last race. Aiming for 48 minutes she ran a 2 minute PB of 47:44, finishing 3rd in her age category (and obviously super pleased !!). Mandy was out to enjoy the race and finished in 51:18. Huge thanks to Joby Humm for the photos and his support on the course.
MALAGA HALF MARATHON AND MARATHON
Opting for some sunny running, Sam Hillyard and Mary Veater headed to Spain for the Malaga half and full marathon. The flat course takes runners past the iconic sights of this coastal city. Sam took on the marathon distance finishing in a pleasing time of 4:20.55, a few minutes quicker than her time last year. Taking on the half marathon, Mary Veater had a fantastic run, absolutely smashing her previous time at this race by 7 minutes. She finished with a brilliant new PB of 1:56.54.
MID ESSEX CASUALS CHRISTMAS TRAIL
A little closer to home, Treena Carder and Phil Jeffries ran the 5.5 mile MEC Christmas trail on Sunday. Running together they finished in 1:19:23.
HOPE HOUSE SANTA RUN
The annual Santa run took place at Great Notley Country Park on Sunday raising money for Essex Homelessness charity, Hope House. Hannah Whale and Victoria Metson were there to join in the fun with juniors Toby, Felix and Eva. Dressed in Santa clothing, Toby and Felix had a brilliant run finishing in first and second place overall.
Well done all.
ESSEX VETS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPs
Andy and Wendy Carter were the only ones representing Halstead Road Runners at the annual Essex Veterans Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Orion Harriers put on a great event in Epping Forest and as expected at this time of year, the challenging course was very muddy in places and just what cross country running is all about. 67 year old Andy was up against plenty of younger athletes in the men’s over 50’s race but revelled in the conditions, completing the 4.9 mile race in 109th out of 131 runners with a time of 45 minutes 18 seconds. Wendy, 60 next month, also saw off a number of much younger athletes in the women’s over 40’s race as she completed the same distance in 47:23 and 61st out of 109 runners.
