ESSEX LEAGUE CROSS COUNTRY
In the penultimate round of the Essex Cross Country League, HRR had 5 athletes in action. The venue was Writtle College University and the fast/flat terrain was ideal along with the mild dry weather. The women’s 2 lap race measured 4.6 miles and saw 138 finishers. Noush Springett led the way for Halstead, finishing 71st in a time of 38 minutes 14 seconds with Wendy Carter 20 places further back, crossing the finish line in 39:51 and 91st place. Val Kerrison continues to enjoy competing in her first cross country season for many years as she finished 137th in 51:51. The men’s race was held over 3 shorter laps, totalling 5.6 miles. Andy Carter placed 228th in 48:18 out of 249 finishers with Paul Gerrard 243rd in a time of 53:51.
RAYNEDEER RUN
The Hare and Tortoise RAYNEDEER run took place on Sunday along the Flitch Way in Rayne. It consisted of just over 5k loops in either direction starting from the Booking Hall Cafe. A wet, cold and undulating event, runners had to complete 4 laps for a half marathon and 8 laps full marathon. John Warne completed 4 laps in 2:31:13 and added on an extra lap to run with a friend so she could complete 5 laps which was the furthest she had ever run. Penny Clarke did well, with limited training she managed the 8 laps to complete the full marathon distance in 6:17.28. Gary Wiles and Katie De Bourcier were there for fun and ran the 5k, loving the atmosphere and cake at the end.
MET XC
Aidan Kelly ran for the Met at Uxbridge on Saturday in the Met league. It was a tough,  hilly, 2 lap 8K course with a river crossing and Aidan finished 363rd out of 405 men in 42.06. Well done to all.
