It was the second fixture in the Essex Cross Country League as Halstead Road Runners headed to Hylands Park Chelmsford.
This fixture attracted a particularly strong field due to its location and fast, flat course, with unseasonably warm weather.
Halstead fielded strong teams in both the men’s and the women’s race including Cross country debutants Lizzie Griffiths and Jon Greenley.
Mel Candler was the first lady back for Halstead in a respectable 45th position with the returning Kathryn Bronson second in 54th. Wendy Carter and Sarah Frost made up the remainder of the scoring women’s team. The ladies team finished 2nd in Division 2 on the day.
11 men made up the strong men’s team with Jim Clark first back in 90th position, followed by Richard Candler, Wesley Atkins and Nathan Roulson. Bob Langley and Jon Greenley made up the remainder of the scoring men’s team. Andy Owen, new club captain Dan Hollinshead, Neil Poulter, Ian Chandler and Andy Carter with a superb sprint finish were the other men. The men’s team finished 5th in Division 2 on the day.
Halstead Ladies remain 2nd in Division 2 and the Men 4th in Division 2 after the 2 fixtures.
The clubs attention now moves to the start of the 53-12 Cross County League this weekend on Sunday 6 November at Abbey Fields, Colchester.
