What a weekend for racing! We had HRR in club colours far and wide this weekend.
NORTHSTOWE HALF MARATHON
Jenny Smith represented HRR at the Northstowe half marathon, a multi terrain race last Friday. Jenny was hoping for a bit more road on the course but it was a great training run for chelmsford Marathon which she is running later this year. She finished the half in 2:21.
THREE PEAK CHALLENGE
A huge well done to three of our ladies, Jenny Clack, Bec Gilroy and Jo Norris for taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Friday. The Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. All have been training hard and raising lots of money for charity along the way. Absolutely brilliant!!
ICKWORTH SUNSET CHASE 5K AND 10K
Big well done to Gary Wiles and Katie Debourchier who ran the Ickworth Sunset Chase 5k and 10k on Friday night. The course was a parkland route with a challenging uphill finish. Gary ran the 10k in 1:06:19 and Katie ran the 5k in 37:47. It was Katie’s first race in club colours -and she was proud to be running in yellow and black. She came a brilliant 4th in her age category. Well done to both!!
JUNGFRAU MARATHON
The Jungfrau Marathon is one of the best known mountain marathons in the world. Taking place in Switzerland, the race starts in Interlaken and climbs 6,407 feet (1,953 m) in elevation to the finish at the Eigergletscher. This was the second time Sarah Waddington has represented HRR at Jungfrau. The sun was shining on Saturday but the course is unbelievably tough. Sarah was extremely pleased to Knock 37 minutes off of her time from 2 years ago and finished in 6:33. Huge well done Sarah.
SAWTRY 10 MILE
Sawtry is between Cambridge & Peterborough, and the 10 mile race is a fairly small town race with only 283 runners taking part on Sunday. Steve May was representing HRR.
Starting at the Sawtry academy, the route goes out on one long loop with a few nasty hills en route before heading back into the academy for the finish. A warm day and the hills, made for a challenging course. Steve had a great race crossing the line in 1:12.
HARE AND TORTOISE ROMAN RIVER MARATHON
Tracy English took on the Roman River Trail Marathon on Sunday, a self navigating trail race. Set in the picturesque Roman River valley near Colchester, the courses include a mix of hard-packed trails, tarmac, and grass footpaths, with some hills along the way. An incredible race for Tracy she finished 1st place overall in 3:51.49.
BEDFORD HALF MARATHON
Sam Hillyard took on the Bedford half marathon which is part of the Bedford festival of running weekend. Sam enjoyed the course and the festival atmosphere. She finished in 1:59.56.
TAKELEY 10K
Husband and wife team Ryan and Victoria Miller ran the Takeley 10k together on Sunday. The race is an off-road countryside race down the Flitch Way. It was Victoria’s debut race in club colours and she finished with a PB of 1:11.50. It’s also great to see Ryan running again after coming back from a knee injury, he finished in 1:11:52.
Lisa Clark was also there and not usually keen on off road running ended up really enjoying it and finished in 00:52:59.
THE GREAT NORTH RUN
Men’s captain Perry James was representing HRR in Newcastle at the Great North Run on Sunday. 60,000 runners take on the 13.1-mile route from Newcastle to South Shields each year. Extremely wet weather but the atmosphere made up for it. Perry crossed the line in 1:47.49.
LONG COURSE WEEKEND YORKSHIRE HALF MARATHON
Caroliena Cameron also headed up north at the weekend to take part in the Long Course Weekend Yorkshire! A huge multi-sport festival in Nidderdale featuring runs, rides, triple-style challenges and junior events. Caroliena ran the half marathon, an extremely hilly course in 2:03.23.
Well done HRR!!
