Halstead Road Runners hosted the final fixture of the cross country season at Gosfield School on Sunday. The recent snow melt and heavy rain meant conditions were extremely muddy and wet on the popular course through Broaks Wood.
There was a strong turnout for the Road Runners. Wes Atkins finished an outstanding season leading Halstead back in 14th position. Stewart Ellis, who is in great form at the moment, was right behind in 15th. Mat Hutley, in his element in these conditions, finished in 26th. There was then some close packing from Nathan Roulson (37th), Gavin Ripton (39th) and Rob Frost (40th) to complete the scoring team.
The remaining Halstead men were: Tom Porter (50th), Simon Humphrey (60th), Ivan Filchev (61st), Steve May (69th), Jon Greenley (71st), Sam Wolton (76th) and Don English (77th). This strong performance from all the men, not just the scorers, meant they finished 1st in Pool B on the day.
For the ladies Rachael Roughan completed an excellent season in 8th position to score first for Halstead. Caroliena Cameron (31st) and Anna Bambridge, who has also been a key member of the ladies’ team this season, completed the scorers in 38th. Sandi Robinson Miller had a great debut run for the club in 45th position.
The remaining Halstead ladies were: Cat Bennison (57th), Treena Harrington (63rd), Debbie Cook (65th) and Lauren Hutley (72nd). The ladies finished 2nd in Pool B on the day. Overall Halstead finished 1st in Pool B on the day, a brilliant result, but remained 3rd in Pool B at the end of the season just one point behind second place Tiptree.
Elsewhere this weekend Tony Rivers ran his first race in 8 years and his first ever park run at Clare Castle finishing first male in the MV70-74 age category.
