With temperatures soaring, Halstead Road Runners were out over the weekend, taking part in races across Suffolk, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire.
STOWMARKET FRIDAY 5
The Stowmarket Friday 5 is part of the popular Friday 5 Mile Series, attracting runners from all over. Warm evening temperatures made for tough running conditions. Simon Miller represented Halstead, finishing in a time of 40:48.
EPIC 5K – NORTH WALSHAM
Wayne Cook made his road racing debut for Halstead at the Epic 5K in North Walsham. The race saw a big field of 475 runners, with temperatures reaching 27°C at the 7pm start. Wayne finished in 19:40, placing 27th overall and taking 1st place in the M50–54 category – an excellent performance in his first official road race since February 2023.
NEWMARKET 10K – SUNDAY, 29 JUNE
Just two days after Stowmarket, Simon Miller tackled the tough Newmarket 10K – his second race of the weekend. Known for its hills and demanding course, Simon completed the 10K in 50:44. Great running Simon.
WITHER FROM WETHER – 8 MILES
Phil Jeffries and Caroliena Cameron took on the scenic but challenging Wither from Wether 8-mile event. The route mixed trails and road, with some hilly sections and warm weather adding to the challenge. They completed the course in 1:36, combining running and walking to get through what was a tough but rewarding effort.
DOVER TO DOVER CHALLENGE
Lisa Rodbourn took part in an extremely hot and hilly event raising awareness for breast cancer, running the coastal path starting from Dover. The first shocker was the climb up the white cliffs of Dover. It was not a timed event but Lisa did it in 1.50 and was pleased to have been able to do it. This is a cause very close to her heart and we are all very happy that she is back running and enjoying it.
