Round 4 of the Ness XC league took place on Sunday at a new venue of Thorrington Scout Camp hosted by Braintree & District Athletics Club.
Halstead Road Runners had 14 runners competing for them.
The 3 lap course was slightly shorter than the expected 5 miles but each lap provided a challenge for the runners with a fast downhill 1st half before climbing back up hill on slippy mud in the 2nd half.
The 1st male home for Halstead was Matt Thomas in 11th place, an equal distance back in 22nd position was 2nd claim member Bradley Doe with another strong performance.
Steve May was the next member back in 47th spot.
The next 2 HRR back in close succession were Sam Wolton and Anton Nieuwoudt in 81st and 87th positions respectively.
Josh Roughan was next across the line, completing the men’s scoring team, in 107th with Dave English bringing Halstead home in 126th place.
In the ladies race, another strong run from Rachael Roughan brought her across the line in 9th position, Anoushka Springett was the next lady back for HRR in 33rd place.
Completing the ladies scoring team was Emma Healy in 45th position.
One place behind her in 46th was Victoria Metson, with Lorraine Garnham & Emily Bentley close behind in 49th & 50th positions.
The final runner back for Halstead in 60th position was Jane Roach.
In the 1 mile out & back junior race HRR had 3 runners competing.
Amalie Twydell had another brilliant run, competing in her 2nd xc of the weekend, to finish in 3rd position in the girls race.
In the boys race, the battle of the Betancourt Canas brothers was won by the younger brother, Ryan, in 50th position with older brother Reece hot on his heels 1 place behind in 51st.
A massive well done to both our junior & senior teams.
Next fixture in the Ness League on Feb 15th is Halstead’s turn to host a race at Gosfield School.
