Short Runs and Long Runs

The main local race this weekend was the Braintree 5 which returned to its new venue of Chelmsford City Racecourse for the second year. Stuart Ashworth led the Road Runners home in a new PB of 36:11. Caroliena Cameron was first lady for the club in 38:49. She was followed by Leigh-Anne Porter in 42:26 and Lisa Clark who knocked 2 minutes off of her previous best to finish in 43:29. Octogenarian Brian Collins put in a solid run in 50:54.

Treena Carder took part in the Colchester Zoo Stampede 10k which was re-scheduled from March when it was called off due to bad weather. The race was well organised on a great route through the zoo. Treena finished in 53:29.

On Saturday John Warne ran The White Peak Marathon alongside his son for the first half of the race. It was a hard run due to the heat and a late start time. John finished in 4:46:41.

James Smith competed in the North Downs Way 50 mile trail race starting in Farnham, Surrey and finishing in Knockholt Pound, Kent. The course has roughly 6,000 feet of climbs including the famous Box Hill. James was going well till just after halfway when he cut his head on a low hanging branch. After getting the ok from medics to continue he took it easy for the remainder of the race to finish in 08:37:16 placing 19th.

In other events Rob Frost came 10th at the notoriously muddy Nuclear Rush 7km Obstacle Course Race.
