A fantastic turn out by HRR on Sunday morning at Great Bentley half marathon . We had no less than 20 road runners out on the course! The Great Bentley Half Marathon is run mainly on country lanes in rural Essex. It is a fast, flat course, perfect for attaining PB’S. The conditions were challenging with heavy rain showers and headwinds particularly at mile 11 making the course tricky in parts! Stephen Metson was the first home for HRR in a time of 1.27.30 closely followed by Mike Smith with a PB of 1.27.41 and Steve May also securing a new PB in a time of 1.28.47.
Karen Pickering ran her first race for HRR and was our first lady home in 1.33.51 a very impressive 3 minute PB. Rachael Roughan ran a strong race in 1.38.47 and Gavin Ripton running as part of his halstead marathon training finished in 1.43.01 with Mathew Hutley in 1.43.02. Hot on their heels was Gareth Dyball in 1.44.58.
Mandy Humm ran a fantastic race finishing in 1.49.54 which was a half marathon PB and 2 minutes quicker than her last Great Bentley time.
Both Hannah Whale and Hannah Joy ran their first official half marathon with Ross Kemble and Sam Wolton pacing them round the course. Hannah Joy finished in 1.50.47 and Hannah Whale in 1.53.38. A strong race for both ladies. Ross Kemble finished in 1.51.55 and Sam Wolton in 1.53.40. Charlotte King ran well and finished just ahead of Sam in 1.53.03.
Jenny Smith had a great race, aiming for 2.08 she secured herself a 2 minute PB at 2.07.04. Close behind her followed Jane Roach in 2.08.07 and Sarah Frost in 2.11.14.
Our 3 ladies Laura Smith, Charlii Bower and Lauren Ripton crossed the line together in 2.20.06 and clearly had an enjoyable run with someone approaching them at the end to say they had really enjoyed their chat and loved hearing the laughter as they went round!
Katie Martin bought Halstead home finishing in 2.52.17.
The support for HRR out on the course was fantastic so a big shout out to everyone who braved the dreadful conditions to cheer them all on!
In other running news…Caroliena and Phil ran the Essex Trail event’s Sticky Wicket. It was a 5.3 mile self navigation trail run from the Cricketers Arms in Rickling Green near Stansted. A beautiful morning, an extremely muddy course but luckily they just missed the rain. They completed in 51.42. Caroliena was 2nd lady and Phil 4th male.
Paul Hinsley and his daughter completed the Blackmore Vale Lions half Marathon in Bishops Caundle in Dorset. The Weather was blustery and the course undulating. This was part of their continuing training for the Manchester marathon in April. Paul finished in 1:41:59 and Anna finished in 2:19:30 – a new PB.
