Wine Anyone?

It’s been a busy and varied weekend starting on Friday night with Hazel Buist and Andy Owen travelling to Kirton for the first race in the Friday 5 series which was hosted by Felixstowe Road Runners. Heavy rain and storms greeted them on arrival but thankfully stopped just before the start. The first mile was off road and slightly flooded including a smelly manure puddle! Despite the conditions Andy finished in 32.23 and Hazel recorded yet another PB of 35.05 coming 4th in her age category.

On Saturday there were some great performances from Road Runners at the Great Cornard parkrun. Tom Porter finished 1st in his age category with a PB of 19.25. Kathryn Bronson also came 1st in her age category and was 3rd female overall in 22.33.

A hardcore group headed off to the Dedham Vale Vineyard with Charlotte May, Treena Harrington and Don English taking on the 5k route and Chris Hill, Carol Hill, Heidi Worf and Jenn Langley doubling up for the 10k. The race is a charity fundraiser taking place in and around the vineyard with wine tasting stations along the course and a glass of wine for all finishers. Despite drinking 14 glasses of wine Heidi was 2nd lady back in the 10k (photo courtesy of Jenn Langley).

Sam Wolton made his now annual trip to Dartmoor for the Discovery Ultra Marathon. He knocked 11 minutes of his previous personal best finishing the 32 mile course in 5 hours and 51 minutes.

Rachael Roughan reigned victorious at The Elements obstacle race in Kent taking the 1st female crown after covering 4 laps of the 8k course (32km in total) of walls, monkey bars, rivers and wooded trail running.

Ian Chandler, Dan Smith and Andy Wilmot ran the Stour Valley Ultra Marathon on Sunday. Starting and finishing in Nayland racing over the hilly trails of the Stour Valley, the weather made for quite tough conditions. Chandler was first back for the Road Runners in 5 hours 21 minutes with Smith in 5 hours 55 minutes and Wilmot in 6 hours and 6 minutes.

Rounding off the weekend Richard Tiller took on the Harwich 24 in Harwich. Over the 24 hour period he showed real endurance managing to cover 20 x 4k off road laps totalling 80k finishing in 26th place in the solo race.
