600th MARATHON MAN! ANDY WILMOT
20th Halstead and Essex Marathon 11th May 2014
Halstead Road Runner and Marathon guru Andy Wilmot completed his 600th Marathon on Sunday at the Halstead and Essex Marathon. Andy was joined by 25 members of his running club on the start line and had the pleasure of starting the race. Andy, who is 70 years young in two months time. Stormed around the North Essex course, whipping up a frenzy on his journey and clocked a fantastic time of 4 hours 13 minutes and 55 seconds. Andy celebrated at the end of the race with a specially brewed beer, a hand-made 600 shaped cake and a band! Andy appeared in the Sun newspaper the following day and has been interviewed by local media.
Well done Andy on this amazing achievement from all at Halstead Road Runners. We are very proud of you! Perhaps next up for you will be an appearance on TOWIE with your new found stardom?!
The course is held on public roads and flows through the North Essex villages of Colne Engaine, Twinstead and Pebmarsh before returning to the Headquarters at Halstead Leisure Centre. The conditions were cool and blustery with a touch of the wet stuff. HRR must thank the people of North Essex for the incredible amount of support they give this race every year. HRR have already heard from many of the runners and the first thing they always say is how supportive and friendly the organisers and members of the public are. The encouragement helps offset the pain and effort of 26.2 miles of running. WELL DONE NORTH ESSEX!
For HRR this was the 20th anniversary of the Halstead and Essex Marathon. The occasion was marked with the 26 HRR entrants wearing a special named and badged shirt for the race.
