With the temperatures dropping it can be hard to stay motivated to get out and run.. not so much for HRR. We had many runners out dodging the ice and getting their weekend run fix. We also had a few who took on races near and far…
SOUTHAMPTON 10K
Taking place on Sunday and starting and finishing in St. Mary’s Stadium, the home of Premier League football club Southampton FC! This was a closed road event, around Southampton city centre before finishing in the Stadium.
An ideal run for Nina Powell who’s dad was a huge Southampton FC fan. Nina ran with husband Darren and was very pleased with her time of 1:10:30.
TELFORD 10k
Also taking place on Sunday, Telford 10k is statistically proven as the fastest 10k course in the UK. This is a flat 2 lap traffic free tarmac course around Telford park. In the last 14 years 32 men have broken 32 minutes and the female course record stands at 31:12. It was also the England 10k Championships and the England Athletics Age Group Masters Qualifying event.
This course is ideal for those chasing a PB and we had Ian Sutcliffe there representing HRR. With the temperature just above freezing and with snow falling during the race, Ian pushed as hard as he could and finished in a fantastic time of 44:10. Unfortunately not quite fast enough to qualify for the England Athletics masters but a great race and his fastest 10k of the year. Brilliant running Ian!
MALAGA MARATHON
Slightly further afield, enjoying some winter sun running and escaping the freezing temperatures was Simon Hillyard who took on the Malaga marathon on Sunday.
The relatively flat course took runners through some of the most beautiful parts of the city.
This was Simons first marathon at the age of 56 and he finished in a fantastic time of 3:43:32.
HOPE HOUSE SANTA RUN
All for a good cause we had a team of roadrunners taking part in the Hope House Santa 5k charity run on Sunday. Dressed in Santa suits they ran 2 laps of Great Notley Discovery centre. An enjoyable run and a sight worth seeing!
Finally, a big well done to Aidan Kelly who ran his 100th Parkrun at Maldon on Saturday.
