HRR were out in force this weekend taking on new challenges.
THE PEDDARS WAY WALK
Val Kerrison and Wendy Carter walked ‘The Peddar’s Way’ last week. The route runs through the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The weather was not kind but they enjoyed it nonetheless. They walked for 5 days; day 1, 15 miles, day 2, 13.5 miles, day 3, 10 miles, day 4, 13.5 miles and the final day, 12.5 miles, finishing in Hunstanton, North Norfolk. Thats a huge amount of walking so well done ladies.
SVP
Always a popular event for our trail lovers, this self navigation race uses a combination of the St. Edmunds Way, Stour Valley Path and the Essex Way. The Stour Valley Marathon covers 27miles of tracks, trails, roads and byways along the route. HRR had a great turnout of 15. Matt Thomas finished 2nd overall in a time of 1:39.19. Aidan Kelly ran well finishing in 2:33.51. Caroliena Cameron took a few wrong turns, ending up running just short of 15 miles but still achieved a great time of 2:33.53. Running as a group and enjoying the race were Hannah Ervine, Ross Kemble, Adam Hampton, Sophie Dorset, Steve Fellowes, Sam Wolton and Mary Veater. They crossed the line in 2:45. Jo Roulson and Tracy English also ran together in 3:32.42.
MARATHON
Keely Jordan and Darren Powell took on the marathon route. Keely finished in 6th place overall and was first lady home in 4:12.14. It was Darren’s third time running this event. He is in training for the SVP100 and was using this as part of his training. He finished in 5:46, 7 minutes quicker than last year.
HIGH EASTER 10k
Now forming part of the Essex Championships, the High Easter 10k is a fast and flat course held on quiet country lanes, starting and finishing in the picturesque village of High Easter. Another great turnout for HRR. Chris Lloyd was first home for Halstead beating his target time of 38 minutes in 37:33. Joseph Slee had a terrific race finishing with a 45 second PB in 38:09. Rachel Rising, our first lady home crossed the line in 38:51. James North achieved yet another 10k PB after setting one on Wednesday evening at the club handicap race. He finished in 40:27. Karen Pickering was only a second behind in 40:28. Hayley Lamkin completed in 41:52. Getting stronger and stronger Luis Betancourt Canas had yet another fantastic race. He finished with a brilliant PB of 42:20. Continuing her superb race form, Rachael Roughan achieved a PB of 43:47. Having run the SVP half marathon the day before, Adam Hampton still managed a great time of 43:45. Running together, Victoria Metson and Emma Healy were thrilled to finish with a sub 50 PB time. Victoria 49:56 and Emma 49:57. Learning to love running again Lisa Clark finished in 53:30 which was her fastest time for this course. Mandy Humm and Dan Roughan are both on training plans for a race later in the year. Sticking to their plan they ran together and crossed the line in 54:39. John Warne felt good, he started off easy and gradually speeded up finishing in 1:00.12.
MEC TRAIL RUN
Treena Carder and Phil Jeffries took on the ‘Museum of Power LorR’ which was a 6mile trail run. Participants had a choice at various points of turning left or right, making it slightly more challenging than normal. Going wrong once they did an extra half mile and finished in 1:15.25.
A great weekend of running!
