The legendary Comrades Marathon “Up Run” covers an incredible 85.8 km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, challenging runners with around 1,750 metres of climbing over five major hills.
Having completed the Comrades Down Run last year, Paul Hinsley returned to South Africa determined to take on one of the toughest endurance events in the world once again.
The hard work paid off in spectacular fashion. Improving on last year’s time of 11:08:43, Paul crossed the finish line in an outstanding 9:53:24, earning both the Robert Mtshali Medal and the coveted Back-to-Back Medal.
Cutting more than an hour from an already impressive performance is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication and resilience Paul has shown throughout his training and preparation.
As the international Comrades motto reminds us: “Ska Fela Moya” Never Lose Heart.
