Saturday saw 6 HRR members compete in the Essex XC Champs being held at the hilly Gloucester Park in Basildon.
The ladies were first to race over the distance of 8k. Luckily the forecast rain held off, leaving just a strong crosswind for the runners to battle.
1st home for Halstead was Rachael Roughan, whose legs were still tired from running the Flitch Way marathon a week ago, finishing in 61st place out of the 100 women taking part. Next back was Anna Bambridge in 92nd with Lauren Ripton not far behind in 98th position.
The men were next up over the slightly further distance of 12k.
Steve May was the first Halstead man to finish in 97th place, with Bob Langley, sporting a brand new pair of shiny HRR coloured running spikes, back next in 150th. Unfortunately his spikes weren’t so shiny by the end.
This left Gav Ripton to bring HRR home in 158th out of the 188 runners taking part.
Well done all HRR who took part.
