Halstead Road Runners hosted the inaugural Gosfield Gauntlet trail half marathon and marathon on Sunday. The event proved extremely popular with the half marathon over-subscribed. Both distances started at Gosfield School taking in local trails before heading back through Broaks Wood to finish. The weather on the day offered perfect chilly but dry conditions.
In the half marathon race Craig Dawson from Tiptree Road Runners claimed the top spot in 1:43:07. There were a number of Halstead runners including Charlotte May, Charlii Bower, Axel Voigt and Anthony Denton who all ran together. It was the first trail half for all of them and the first trail experience for Anthony and Axel who are now converts. The group had a brilliant time and only got lost once near the end which then involved them climbing through a hedge to get back on track! They finished in 3:26:19.
In the full marathon Nathan Roulson for the host club had a fantastic run, taking the lead by the second checkpoint to finish in 3:45:54 25 minutes ahead of second place Darren Coates from Harlow Running Club.
Runners were rewarded with a goody bag from local firm Eat Natural, a Halstead Road Runners buff as well as hot chilli and plenty of cakes at the finish.
Halstead Road Runners Chairman, Bob Langley, who planned the race routes and put in a vast amount of work both before and on the day, said he was delighted with the really positive feedback received. He said it was a great day for the club and thanked everyone for pulling together to put on a fantastic event.
