Remembrance Weekend

It was the second fixture in the Essex Cross Country League this weekend at One Tree Hill a venue which offers a tough course which lives up to its hilly name. Conditions were slippy and muddy underfoot with the men in particular having difficulty safely navigating some tight corners.

Rachael Roughan (29), Leigh-Anne Porter (64) and Anna Bambridge (77) took the top 3 scoring spots for the Road Runners again. Kelly Judge, who only joined the club this week, had a great cross country debut finishing strongly in 82nd position ensuring Halstead had a complete scoring team. The ladies finished 4th in Division 2.

James Smith (37) and Wes Atkins (50) retained their top spots in the Halstead men’s team. Club Captain Dan Hollinshead, becoming a regular feature of the men’s team this season, finished in 124th Bob Langley took the uphill finish in his stride in 133rd with Don English (149) and Stuart Ashworth (154) both giving it everything to again secure a full scoring team. The men had a fantastic result finishing 1st in Division 2 on the day well ahead of second place JBR Run and Tri.

The Stebbing 10 is a sell out event on Remembrance Sunday with a short service outside the local Church to mark the two minutes silence prior to the start of the race. Lisa Clark got her second 10 mile PB in as many months knocking two minutes off her Tiptree 10 time to finish in 1:31:39. Other Halstead results were:

Sam Wolton 1:14:16
Paul Hinsley 1:14:45
Rachael Roughan 1:16:28
Caroliena Cameron 1:26:09
Phil Jeffries 1:32:58
Adrian Gasser 1:38:22
Mick Purkiss 1:40:28

Tom Porter ventured across the border into Suffolk for the Stowmarket Scenic 7, an unusual distance for a race and his first time competing at that distance. Tom set down a best time of 45 minutes.

John Warne did the Remembrance Day 100th Anniversary Race, a 6 hour event in Brightlingsea which consisted of a 6.55 mile lap on a tough course with some muddy sections and strong winds along the sea wall. Runners had the option of 2 laps for a half marathon, 4 for a full or to just keep going till the time was up! John completed 4 laps which actually was just over the full marathon distance 26.6 miles in 5:05.

Tony Rivers decided for a change of location for park run this week coming 2nd in his age category in 34:58 at Colchester.
