HALSTEAD MARATHON CHAMPION MOHAMMED ELBAYAN: A REMARKABLE JOURNEY.
Mohammed Elbayan, a talented long-distance runner representing Colchester Harriers, made headlines with a stunning performance at the Halstead Marathon, not only winning the race but setting a new course record of 2:28:08. His achievement was all the more remarkable given the challenging heat and the fact that he had recently competed in the Manchester Marathon just two weeks prior. Originally from Chad in Central Africa, Mohammed arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker in November 2018. Since then, he has become a shining example of resilience and determination, inspiring many through both his athletic prowess and personal journey. His dominant win at Halstead, finishing 16 minutes ahead of second place, was met with huge enthusiasm from spectators along the course. His victory is a reminder of how sport can unite, inspire, and offer hope, no matter where your journey begins. The Kings Head pub in Pebmarsh donated £120 to a charity of Mohammed’s choice as a show of support – Children with Cancer UK.
