Club members were in action across a range of events this weekend, from a 100-mile ultramarathon on the South Downs to local road races and trail marathons. There were several personal bests, a first official 10K, and a notable milestone at the South Downs Way 100.
SOUTH DOWNS WAY 100
A tough but iconic ultramarathon across the rolling South Downs, with relentless climbs, stunning scenery, and a true test of endurance from start to finish.
Matt Biggin was delighted to break the 25-hour barrier, finishing in an official time of 24:51:25 and taking three hours off his 100-mile PB.
SOUTHEND HALF MARATHON
A fast coastal half marathon featuring long seafront stretches.
Laurence Gowers finished in 2:21:19, running alongside his wife and supporting her as she completed her first half marathon.
Maryann Sycamore also enjoyed a successful day, crossing the line in 2:28:04.
HIGH EASTER 10k
A rural road race through the Essex countryside, offering a scenic, undulating course.
James North led the club home in 39:12, securing a new 10K PB, followed by Luis Betancourt Canas in 40:12 new PB.
Perry James ran 47:02, while Noush Springett finished in 50:16, feeling strong throughout and earning a well-deserved PB.
Mandy Humm crossed the line in 53:20, ahead of Jenny Smith in 59:41. John Warne recorded 1:06:15 enjoying a steady run as he continues his return from injury.
Robyn Smith completed her first official 10K race in 1:07:08, taking an impressive 9 minutes off her previous training PB.
STOUR VALLEY HALF
A scenic trail adventure following the beautiful Stour Valley, combining varied terrain with stunning countryside views.
Ross Kemble completed the event, which measured around 28 miles by the finish, in 5:35, and successfully tested walking poles over the final 11 miles of the course.
EXHIBITION TRAIL
Mid Essex Casuals hosted a 6.1 mile trail run on Sunday.
It was Len Marten’s first race as an HRR member. Len and Jane Roach ran together finishing in 1:21.53.
COMRADES ULTRA MARATHON
The Comrades Ultra Marathon “Up Run” is the 85.8 km ultramarathon from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The course features a grueling 1,750-meter elevation gain across five major hills.
Having ran the Comrades Down ultra marathon last year, Paul Hinsley took on the challenge again.
His time last year was 11:08.43 this year he
managed a time of 9:53:24 and got the Robert Mtshali medal and the back to back medal.
A truly remarkable achievement and a testament to Paul’s commitment and determination.
As the international Comrades slogan says: “Ska Fela Moya” – Never Lose Heart.
