Maurice Young competed in the Targu Mures ETU Sprint distance European Championships in the 85 to 89 year old category. He completed the 5k run, 20k bike, 2.5k run in 1:55:07. He was the only competitor in that age group so won the gold medal. An amazing achievement!
The ever popular Spitfire Scramble took place this weekend and 29 Halstead Road Runners made the trip to Hornchurch Country Park to take part. The event is a 24 hour event where teams do as many of the 5.7 mile laps as they can in a 24 hour period. As long as they start the last lap within the 24 hour period it counts. The course is all off road round the country park.
John Warne competed in the Solo Male category doing an amazing 13 laps in 22:21:39. He came 9th out of 25 competitors with an average lap time of 1:05:56.
Phil Jeffries and Kris Bell competed in the Male pair category and did 10 laps each to complete 20 laps in a time of 24:01:27. The came 4th out of 15 pairs with an average lap time of 0:52:28.
Rachael Rougham, Lisa Clarke, Anna Bambridge, Kelly Judge and Sam Hillyard made up a Female team of 5. They won their category by completing 28 laps in 24:34:54. Their average lap time was 0:52:41. Fantastic effort by the ladies who were defending their title from last year.
Nathan Roulson, Ian Chandler, Neil Poulter, Ivan Filchev and Paul Hinsley made up the Male team of 5. They came 2nd in their category by completing 30 laps in 23:05:28. Their average lap time was 0:46:11.
There were two mixed teams of 8, HRR 81 and HRR 82.
HRR 81 consisted of Sam Wolton, Treena Carder, Jo Roulson, Andy Carter, Adam Buckle, Juan Jose de Gea Fernandez, Anthony Denton and Bob Langley. They came 11th place out of 55 teams completing 29 laps in 24:01:35. They had an average lap time of 0:49:43.
HRR 82 consisted of Axel Voigt, Trevor Sibley, Lottie Armitage (guest runner), Adrian Gasser, Leigh-Anne Porter, Charlii Bower, Wendy Carter and Dan Rougham. They came 28th out of 55 teams completing 26 laps in 24:47:48. Their average lap time was 0:57:14
