So has summer finally arrived? Let’s hope so! But for all the summer fun the sunshine brings it can make running a little harder. The heat didn’t stop 4 roadrunners from taking on their own challenges on Sunday!

SOUTHEND HALF
The Southend Half Marathon is a coastal course and is flat and traffic free with great PB potential (that is if the weather behaves and doesn’t throw in a mini heat wave on the day!!) The course is made up of 2 laps and the route takes runners through The Garrison before picking up Southend seafront to the Sealife Centre and back. Sandy Maloy took on this scenic half marathon with views over the Thames Estuary. With the weather so hot it was a tough run for Sandy but she kept going and finished in 2:43.15.

RUN THE RES
An out and back half marathon distance multi-terrain running event in beautiful Layer de la Haye taking in Abberton Reservoir. Described as ‘hot and hilly’ it was another tough event. Caroliena Cameron enjoyed the race and did brilliantly finishing in 16th place overall, she was 6th lady and in a time of 2:21. Fantastic job Caroliena!!

SUMMER SAMOSA
Aidan Kelly took part in the summer samosa, an event organised by Sikh city runners. Teams of up to five runners per team (only one runner active at any one time) have to complete 25 laps in total for the Team Relay Ultra medals. Aidan and his four team mates ran 10k each in 2k laps. His team were very happy to take third place trophy.

HARWICH TRIATHLON
Chris lloyd took on his first ever triathlon on Sunday. The swim was a 300m pool swim with a rolling start, 12 lengths of the pool swam in a zig zag configuration. The bike route took athletes out of town and onto countryside roads for 24km, going through the surrounding villages of Harwich with scenic views. The run route was a flat 5km along the promenade of Dovercourt Bay’s beach. The perfect way to end a triathlon, with sea views and no hills. Chris enjoyed the event completing the Swim in 9 minutes, the bike in 49 minutes and the run in 20 minutes. Excellent triathlon debut!!
