An exceptionally hot weekend made running that little bit more challenging, but that didn’t stop HRR.
THE LAP
This is a beautiful 75K/47 mile, fully signposted trail ultra marathon, around Lake Windermere. Keely Jordan, always up for a challenge, took on ‘The Lap’ on Saturday. A tough race with a lot of really steep hills. Keely finished in an incredible time of 10 hours 57 minutes and was 5th lady home. Amazing running Keely.
THE SUFFOLK COAST ULTRA
This is a point to point 50km ultra marathon along the Suffolk Coastal Path. The race started in Lowestoft and took runners south, along the stunning coastal trail through Southwold, Dunwich and along to a seafront finish in Aldeburgh. We had 3 roadrunners there on Saturday, Jim Clark, Dan Hollinshead and Bob Langley. Jim took on the 50k challenge to raise money for Samaritans in memory of his best friend Stuart who he lost last year. Dan and Bob went along for support and Jim raised over £600 for a very worthy cause. In extremely warm conditions Bob Langley finished in 6 hours 36 minutes and Jim and Dan crossed the line together in 7 hours 8 minutes. Well done all.
TAKELEY 10K
The Takeley 10K race is an off-road race down the Flitch Way. Ben Ryder ran it as part of his ongoing marathon training. Having run 14 miles to the start line he still managed a brilliant performance in the heat finishing 11th place out of 341 runners in a time of 41:27. Katie Martin was also there (and by her own admission there for the T-shirt) a difficult race in the heat she finished in 1:22.04.
PLESHEY HALF MARATHON
Pleshey half was back for their 11th year. Part of the Essex champs series, HRR had a great turnout of yellow at the start line. Reece Hearn romped it home first for Halstead in 1:27.33. Hayley Lamkin came next in 1:34. Finishing 4th in her age category for Essex champs. Crossing the line next in 1:37.55 was Karen Pickering coming 2nd in her age category for Essex champs and taking home a silver medal. Using it as part of her ongoing training, Tracy English ran to the start line. Tracy finished in 1:39.26 coming 3rd in her age category for Essex champs and claiming a bronze medal. James North running really well in the hot conditions finished in 1:45.39. Coming 6th in his age category for Essex champs was Paul Hinsley in 1:49.57. Sam Wolton was very close behind in 1:50.59. Training hard and reaping the rewards was Charlotte King. She finished 6th in her Essex champs age category in 1:53.59. Gareth Dyball was happy to embrace the very warm racing conditions and took it steady finishing in 2:06.44. Ross Kemble took the same approach and enjoyed it finishing in 2:10.01. Finding it tough in the heat, Noush Springett still finished in a fantastic 7th place in her Essex champs age category in 2:12.08. Taking it as easy as he could was John Warne bringing Halstead home in 2:57.12. Our first three ladies home, claimed the bronze medal for 3rd ladies team. Well done to Hayley, Karen and Tracy.
