Weather conditions were challenging for anyone racing this weekend.
ABINGDON MARATHON
The Abingdon Marathon was first held in 1982 and celebrated its 40th edition this year. The course is flat and fast, almost all on roads, and is a great race to go for a personal best time. However, on Sunday the conditions were far from ideal. Having trained hard, Matt Thomas was there chasing a new PB. His last PB was York marathon exactly 5years ago. It was hard work and he had to rally himself many times, but he did it. He finished in 2:49.53, 7 seconds under his goal, obtaining a London Marathon Good For Age time. Dan Roughan has also been training hard. He had an exceptional run taking a whopping 42 minutes off his previous marathon time finishing in 4:16.10. It was Rachael Roughan’s 3rd marathon of the year and she ran with husband Dan finishing in 4:16.11. On her 2nd marathon of 2024, Mandy Humm finished in 4:36.00. Sam Wolton finished in 4:36.01.
DUXFORD DASH
We had 3 HRR taking on this 10k race on a very windswept airfield. Gary Wiles had a brilliant run crossing the line with a new PB of 57:36. Maryann Sycamore is suffering with an ongoing knee injury. It was good to see her out running again and she finished in 1:04.07. Katie De Bourcier was also there battling the very tough crosswinds.
ESSEX TRAIL EVENTS AUTUMN 8.
HRR had quite a few at the ETE Autumn 8 on Sunday morning. Just under 8 miles on muddy trails from the Horse & Groom at Cornish Hall End. Steve May and Bradley Doe ran together in 1:04.40 finishing joint first place. Bob Langley finished in 1:09.05. Keely Jordan was 2nd lady in 1:11.01. Another strong run from Caroliena Cameron in 1:13.22. Simon Smith finished in 1:15.12. Tracy English and Dave English ran together in 1:16.45. Also running together, Lorraine Garnham and Wendy Carter completed in 1:26.52 and Treena Carder in 1:27.01.
STEVENAGE MARATHON
The Stevenage marathon only takes place every 10years. HRR’s marathon legend, Andy Wilmot was there running his 853rd marathon. Having ran his last marathon only a week ago, Andy was suffering with a niggle in his knee. He battled the windy conditions and crossed the line in 5:51.
HRR impress as usual! Well done to all!
