Chelmsford AC hosted round 3 of the Essex Cross Country League at Writtle on Saturday with Halstead Road Runners amongst the 33 clubs represented. After several races for the younger age groups, the penultimate race of the day was for Senior Women. The 4 mile race saw 8 HRR amongst the 141 finishers. Keely Jordan had a great run, crossing the line in 24th position followed by Wendy Carter 78th, Charlotte King 88th and Victoria Metson 90th completing the scoring team. Next was Emma Healy 96th, Lorraine Garnham making a long awaited return to racing in 104th, Anna Bambridge 128th and Lauren Ripton 131st. The Men’s race followed over the slightly longer distance of 4.8 miles and in a very competitive field Wes Atkins led the team home in 98th place out of the 239 finishers. Mike Smith ran well to finish in 112th followed by Gav Ripton 168th, Alan Fancy 192nd, Darren Powell 200th and Don English 212th. Andy Carter just missed out on the 6 man scoring team but still placed well in his age group with 219th. When the results were announced Halstead had placed 5th Women and 6th Men out of 20 clubs in Division 2.
