On a much colder day than we’ve recently experienced, we had 8 runners in action at the Essex Veterans Cross Country races today at Writtle Uni. Three races all followed the same 2 lap course which measured just over 5 miles. First up were the 50+ men with HRR represented by Don English who placed 111th in 43 minutes 30 seconds and Andy Carter123rd in 45:12 out of 144 finishers. Race 2 was for 40+ women and after leading the 109 runners for the first few hundred metres, Keely Jordan ran a great race to cross the line 7th in 37:19 followed by Rachael Roughan 21st in 40:17, Wendy Carter 66th in 46:06 and Anna Bambridge 100th in 53:33. The final race, on what were now well trodden paths around the meadows and field edges that made up most of the route, was for men aged 40-49. Ben Brown in his first ever cross country race ran well to place 58th in 37:57 out of 73 finishers. Dan Roughan showed his usual combative style on the first lap but succumbed to a recurring knee injury that meant he had to drop out.
