Remembrance Weekend

Conditions were ideal for last Sundays 2nd round of the Ellisons Solicitors Cross Country League and it was a welcome return to Hilly Fields in Colchester where the host club, Great Bentley, designed an interesting and very challenging 5 mile course.

Halstead’s men came 2nd out of the 5 clubs in Pool B, the women’s team came 4th and we were 3rd overall, leaving us in equal 2nd with 4 races to go. There were 214 men and 115 women in total, which was a very good turnout from the 11 clubs.

Tom Porter was first back for Halstead in 53rd place, followed by Nathan Roulson 55th, Dan Hollinshead 62nd, Jim Clark 67th, Gary Freear 68th, Steve May 78th, Gavin Ripton 89th, Don Wilson 143rd, Simon King 161st, Andy Carter 164th, Sam Wolton 165th, Nik McKean 174th, Dan Roughan 192nd and Axel Voigt in 213th.

Halstead’s women were led home by Rachel Roughan 15th then came Wendy Carter 49th, Lisa Rodbourn 64th, Anna Bambridge 70th, Lauren Hutley 103rd and Jenn Langley 106th

On Saturday John Warne and Ray Sharman ran the Remembrance Run Essex Half Marathon. It was three laps of an old disused airfield. Ray completed it in 1:37:00 and John finished in 1:58:50.

The Galleywood Hobble trail run took place on Sunday. Gary Freer and Nathan Roulson completed the 16.5 mile course and came third in 2:23:46. Caroliena Cameron and Andy Carter completed the 10mile course and Caroliena came just ahead of Andy in 1:40:54 while he came in at 1:41:05. Wendy Carter and Lisa Rodbourn did the 5mile course in 0:52:26.

A large contingent of Halstead Road Runners ran in the Stebbing 10 on Sunday.

Gavin Allen came in 14th place in a time of 0:57:40
