The Essex Championship race, the Pleshey Half Marathon took place this weekend. Conditions were warm for mid September. Steve May was first home for Halstead in a time of 1:35:18. Halstead Road Runners have been out undertaking some major events over the last few weeks. Bob Langley and Neil Poulter took on the 50km Writtle Round on the 25th July. This is an off road route with navigation by narrative route description. Bob completed it in 5:34:56 coming 16th overall and Neil completed it in 5:58:29 coming in 27th place. [...]
On the 9th July Nathan Roulson took on the epic Val d'Aran trail running event in the Pyrenees. This is a 105km event taking in over 21,000 feet of ascent, much of it on technical, boulder ridden terrain. Nathan finished the event in 27:36:00. The Hare and Tortoise running company held the Blackwater trail events on Saturday. This event ran three different distances along the River Chelmer from Chelmsford to the Blackwater estuary. This Sunday saw the first big road race for a long time. 1384 participants took part in the Colchester Stampede 10k and Halstead Road Runners were out in force. Halstead Road Runners have been back in action over the past couple of weeks running races. On Easter Monday, Dan Hollinshead and Steve May ran in the Easter Eggstravaganza trail run at Writtle. Ben Brown took on the Stort 30m Ultra this Sunday. He completed it in 4:43:37 coming 28th overall out of 119 competitors and 8th in his age group. Ross Kemble and Phil Jeffries ran Craig's Layer trail event 10m. They completed it in 1:46:52.
The Essex Trail Events Toppesfield 7m self navigated trail event took place on Sunday. The weather was good although a bit damp underfoot.
